I've a 1999 E200 avantgarde which has sod all air emiting from it's vents, even when the blower is set to 5 (highest setting). I can hear the fan working furiously, but little or no air comes out any of the vents. Then there's the very small point that, seeing as it's been a bit hot, the AC doesn't seem to do very much in the way of cooling the air.

Is this a common problem and is there a simple, quick fix, or do I need specialist help?

The pollen filter is blocked?

I had the same problem with my c240 and finally found the fan although it was working like mad it was running in reverse!!!!! Take the fan out and hold it while running it at no1 postion and see if it`s running the correct way, it`s usually quite easy to tell with the way the blades are angled. I had to cut both the mains wires and swop them around as the plug for the fan can only go on one way but god what a difference. Hope this helps. Ian

It will be the pollen filter, my 210 displayed exactly the same symptoms when I first bought it from a friend a year ago. He had owned it for three years and always moaned about the poor ventilation. One filter change later and it's working perfectly. The old filter didn't look all that dirty but actually weighed ten times as much as the new one I did mention to my friend that he should have maybe asked the main dealer why they hadn't changed it during a service but I don't know if it's a service item.

I think its either annual or mileage based.

I had the same problem and changed the filter as advised but still no change, it was only then i discovered the problem with the fan running backwards, everybody told me to change the filter and after that i was stuck for answers so decided one sunny hot day i`d had enough sweating like a glassblowers a**e!!!!! I took the fan out but still had it connected just to check it was running as fast as it sounded when fitted, as all seemed ok i switched it off (still holding fan all this time) as i watched it slow to a stop i had a silly thought (maybe its running the wrong way?) Although i checked which way the fan was running and the direction of the fan blades i was only 75% confident as all the connections for the fan can only go on one way but i went ahead and cut the 2 main cables for the supply and swapped them, I switched the fan on while still holding it and the fan ran the opposite direction, so...... getting more confident that this was the problem i fitted the fan back into position, held my breath and switched on, only to be covered in s**t that has been lying in the air ducts for god knows how long, after the dust had settled and the smile faded from my face i went through all the fan functions and all working perfectly now. I had the exact same problem with no air coming through any vents, so if the pollen filter is ok then this is always something to look for.
