This car (95k kilometers) has been in garage on at least 10 occasions due to engine light coming on. Car is driving poorly lacking power in low gears, engine tends to stall when you go to accelerate and then surges forward.

Over the past few months it has had a "Hella" MAF fitted, new throttle pedal unit- the one the accelerator cable activates, small valve at back of engine and new O2 sensor. The code that keeps coming up is P2036 and text "low air". However this morning when he read it it said P2036 but also had two other codes (sorry I dont have numbers for these) but the text was "MAF open circuit" and also one for "outside temperature sensor open circuit". He has cleared all the codes again and fitted genuine Merc MAF to see if that is the problem. Car seems to drive fine at the moment but it has done that in the past for a few days after clearing codes but then engine light comes back on again

The car has been serviced and drives well when up in the gears and at higher speeds.
Any ideas what could be wrong - I am sick of it at this stage:( .

Cheers

You may have a wiring problem. Spme of the 111 kompressor engines had a problem with the solder joints in the engine loom being poor. The remedy is to cut them back and re-solder.

I am just leaving work so if you need more info pm me on monday.

Just to update you, car was back in garage today (MErc main dealer) and they read the codes - P2036 again and P2006 stored. They now say that they have to replace the secondary air flap to see if that is the problem. The valve at the back of the head has also been replaced but no difference. Mechanic was aware of the dry solder problem but said mine was OK. Anyone know what this flap is and how does it work?

Last week they replaced the cam actuator magnet and wiring modification and cleaned the ECU where there was some oil but the EML came on again within one day.

Flap part not in stock so it will be another week.

E200K- Low Air Fault - FIXED

Just to update you. The secondary air flap was fitted yesterday and the car is driving perfectly since. Fingers crossed that is the end of the long running saga!!
Thanks for replies along the way
