After a gap of about 5yrs Merc free I needed a large 2nd hand estate car and the car to go to for me was the s212.Found one from a Mercedes main dealer locally a 2013 E250 TD CDi Avantagrde 49k full history immaculate ideal for what I wanted. However 2wks on and a 1000miles later ive come across some issues.
1.It has a 7g tronic plus box and going from drive into either nuetral or park the car jolts significantly.Prior to my collection the car had a service A and a transmission fluid change at the main dealer I purchased it from. The last Merc estate I had used the 5g box and that didn't jolt or clunk going in and out of drive.
2.Left overnight the rear drops down and if I drive off immediately on start up it hits the stop bumps. When the car is started and I wait the rear end raises by 560mm.This seems a lot to me but I've been told car has direct control suspension not airmatic and this is normal, but I'm not so sure.
3.At about 35mph plus I get a noticeable hum from front end.

And so any advice or knowledge of this particular model and gearbox would be appreciated.

Point 2 sounds like there may be a leak in the self levelling rear suspension, it loses pressure overnight and gets pumped back up when you start the engine.

I’ve had various cars with self levelling and none has done this.

We had a 7g in an e250 and it didn’t clunk

Good luck

Thanks for that and my mistake it's not 560mm it's 56mm or in old money it has to lift 2.5 inches. But I don't get any 'car lifting or too low' messages. The jolt doesn't seem to be right as as few other I've driven, as well as this one when I test drove it were silky smooth.Could the auto jolt be to with the transmission fluid change but you would assume that from a well known main dealer it would have been done right !!!

This may come as a surprise, but none of these things should happen.
Just go back and complain. It's not right.

I suspect the fluid change is said main dealer trying to get rid of the jolt

The non “+” 7G gearbox was famously clunky, the pause between putting your foot down and the ‘box engaging was quite scary when pulling out at junctions, but the newer box I had was lots smoother so there maybe something amiss.

I’d be booking it back in at the main dealer you bought it from.

Thanks for replies I will contact the main dealer and see what they say.

Ok it's been with MB dealer for 3 days and it requires new torque converter, compressor and shocks.....and so far the dealer have been great about so I will have the new c250 coupe AMG loan car a little longer.

Amazing (but not surprising) that an MB dealer would sell someone a car with those faults.

That's what i was thinking I'm hoping realising what they've done they are going to sort it out properly.I take it that amount of work will be expensive

Well got car back today all valeted and 1/2 tank of fuel very nice.In a bit of a rush so jumped in drove about 12 miles on motorway to golf got in car park and thought I'd better just check but it drove really smooth...clunk again going from.D to P or N the car really jolts back to square one.

Still the new compressor solved the rear suspension feels much better. But its this clunk/jolt going from D to P or N they said they've changed the torque converter.Even the sales rep admitted these faults should have been dealt with before it was put on forecourt and if it required a lot spent on it, the car should have gone to auction and not sold as a mercedes authorised used as it not good for reputation.

Well car has been with dealer since Monday and today they have said car is ready and that all the engine mounts have been replaced which has solved the issue. So far the dealership have been good in handling the problems ,so wait and see what it's like when I get it back.

"Quite scary"? I have never sworn so much. I now either tap the pedal first and then hit the brake again, or leave it in "S".
I had a full tranny flush (can I say that these days?) and it's made no difference really - if I get stutter I can put in and out of P and that seems to sort it but really it's *crap*.

Well got it back and yes you guessed it it still jolts going from D to N or D to P ,dealers reckons they all have a slight jolt coming out of D but to me it seems too much.Ive decided to pop it into a local independent and see what they say about it.
