E270
Hi all,

My E270 (2003) has been suffering from a long standing problem of non-starting, it turns over fast enough but will often flatten the battery without starting. My mechanic got it started with easy start but I don't want to have to keep doing that. I have had a mechanic out to diagnose the problem and he has narrowed it down to one of the fuel sensors either side of the fuel rail/distributor.

Problem is my mechanic says that Mercedes modified the part which means I have to purchase the fuel rail and both sensors and the modified sensor will not fit on the original fuel rail. I have attached a diagram of both sensors and the fuel rail.

Does anyone know an alternative to buying both sensors etc from an alternative to Merc? I know you can buy them off ebay but I don't want to take a chance on buying a duff part. At the moment I only have the part number for the fuel rail At £99 + vat.

Are you sure its the sesnors at fault?

Has a leak off test been done?

Has the high pressure pump been tested?

Hi, There was a low pressure reading which came up as a fault, but there was no leak off test done?

Does the engine start immediately with sensor disconnect? If 'low pressure' diagnosed, it is definately something else that sensor itself, I would check if there is air bubbles in clear fuel return lines (leak in o-rings or brittle lines), and go with BlackC55 suggestions about injector testing...

I've not tried disconnecting the sensor, I'll see how I get on this week and let you know.

If it starts it will cause engine light...

I doubt sensor is culprit, check rather air bubbles and condition of low pressure lines.

If you got low fuel pressure fault stored, this has been happening during engine run, pressure is not checked for faults codes during cranking (but yes it won't allow injection if it does not rise high enough). But fault code indicates you have leak somewhere in system, which cause insufficient pressure. This is very common in 'oldish' CDI engines.

Hi Guys,

Thanks to everyone for their input here, it turned out to be the fuel sensor, had it replaced and now starts on the button everytime.
