hi

recently (last few weeks) occasionally the car is making a louder noise from the engine when accelerating. its random though sometimes it goes back to normal, which makes the fault more noticable.

any ideas what this could be? Injectors?

thanks

derek

You'd need to hear the noise, really, but a shot in the dark, and something you don't want it to be, is the flaps in the cross over intake pipe sticking/loose/etc. I jumped on this suggestion on reading your post as a result of a thread on this or the other side about the need for these, and whether noise suppression rather than performance, was MB's aim. Best to check IMO.

is it louder outside or is it just louder from sitting in the car? just I had issues with my S210 and was getting engine noise when accelerating and turning left, turned out to be a torn steering columb boot, not sure if the W124 is the same or not

it could be just inside the car. its only a suttle noise difference so hard to tell. i've been in traffic when it happens so not able to stop and do tests etc

I'm not sure W124 have a boot round the column as they still use wood for the steering.

Exhaust manifold gaskets blown.....more noticeable when cold under load.
Or
Silly answer....thermo coupling on the fan engaged (engine hot) which makes the fan roar under acceleration....perfectly normal but you just might not have noticed before.

Alternator belt shock absorber assembly on the way out?
Air leak on the cross over pipe?

had a quick look at this last night. I think I'll try running some injector cleaner through. Seems to get very loud at around 2000rpm and then die off a bit. i think its engine rather than anything attached to it from what i can tell.

I'll try a molly purge as its been a few years since I last did it.

Derek - did you find out what this was?
