E300td 1998 Diesel Clatter

Having had a previous problem with diesel rollback which you helped me sort out, since I've been back on the road I've noticed that the engine clatters really loudly between idle (650rpm) and 1300rpm after that it goes quiet again, I spoke to a diesel specialist and he told me that it's just something that MB's do and I'll just have to live with it, I cant believe this is right. I was thinking maybe i should have the injectors reconditioned. any opinions greatfully received, Thanks.

Are you sure its clatter? Check the belt tensioner shock absorber isn't loose on the front (the bushes perish). Be careful, it gets hot.

Thanks POD, i'll try to work out how to post a sound file so that you can laugh at the noise mine makes, the belt tensioner does make a little noise but cant be heard over the clattering.
