I live on a country lane that never gets gritted or snow ploughed so the Merc just sits on the drive, this year however we need 2 cars.

Has anyone tried snow tyres on a W210 and how much difference did it make ?

Cheers
Phil

I had winter tyres on my old BMW 330i. Night and day in the snow. If you need to use the car in winter on snow covered roads, get winter tyres.

Huge difference - you'll never go back to using summer tyres in winter again.

That said, I have had very good experiences with the newer 4 season tyres which you can just leave on all year around.

Goodyear Eagle Vector EV2's were the ones I have but Vedrestein also do some with very good reviews.

It is the lack of winter tyres that bring the UK roads to a standstill every year while the rest of worlds countries that also get snow just carry on as normal.

Thanks guys. Looks like that's the way to go. Will I get away with just 2 onthe back .

You will if you:
a) love understeer.
b) love careering nose first into whatever is at the side of the road at the first corner you come to.

i have run with winter tyres on all 4 corners. well worth it.

i have also run with winter tyres just on the rear. also well worth it, however get all 4 if you can. i never had any problems. however if its snow then i drive accordingly anyway. i use the grip for the winter tyres for getting me out of getting stuck only, not to grip as i tear around roundabouts etc.

I have used winter tyres on an E300TD - rears only - for a few years.
You will have plenty of traction.
You may not have a lot of brakes, as the majority braking effort is on your front wheels.
