There are many potential buyers of your car that would never buy an ebay car for 3k BUT would buy that same car for 5k from a reputable source that could better prove the condition of the car with all the supporting paperwork.

An ebay purchase is often a financial gamble which many people would not want to participate in.

I agree with your sentiment, but I cannot see why eBay is any more of a gamble than buying from other media?

If it is a private sale - autotrader, pistonheads, etc - then you have no more comeback if it turns sour. Perhaps less if anything?

As far as I have experienced - eBay has more than it's fair share of timewasters, but it does reach a wide audience. You can place 'Classified' ads on there where there is no bidding involved - a good compromise and perfectly safe.
