E320CDI 2003 W211 Air Filter Bosch Not fitting

Hi All

I bought an airfilter today from Eurocarparts and when I went to fit it, the lid of the air box would not close properley, looking at the old filter and comparing it to the new the dimensions seem the same and the only thing I can see that is difference is a slight angle difference in the triangle shaped locating lugs on the new filter. It's enough to not let it close by about 2-3mm.

Some can be a pain to fit but I have always get there in the end, Bosch/Mann and mahle filters.

I have replaced mine with a OEM one and even that is struggle to fit sometimes.

I fitted the same filter 4 days ago and had the same problem fitting it, so I smeared a little oil around the end that fits onto the housing and with a bit of a push it went on a bit further and then I was able to get the top cover on OK.

As above, lubrication is the key. I fitted bosch, can't remember if there was difference in notch angles.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies, I went back to eurocarparts yesterday, the very nice chap had a look at the other parts that might fit and there was a Hengst filter that was listed against an earlier car. I tried that and it fitted ok.

The Hengst did not have the curved plastic fins on the internal surface like the Bosch and I am wondering if this matters but it is in and running.
