E43 amg estate vs saloon handling

My mistake, I was quoting numbers from www.howmanyleft.co.uk.

Because so many of those are ex-demo / ex-staff, it looks like they haven't reached the DVLA website car counts.

And apologies for misunderstanding your point about the nuances between saloon and Estate - I was just picking up the usual C vs. E vibe.

Mike

No worries. Your general theme was correct, lots of vague discussions on differences between cars on the forums that can only really be settled by actually driving the car.

Cheers

Just thought I'd update.

I drove the saloon a few weeks back, drove the estate two days ago and then went back and drove the saloon again yesterday.

To me it seemed that the saloon handled better, enough to make a difference. It might be my imagination but I also felt the saloon felt faster. I know that on paper it is ie 0-60 in 4.6s vs 4.7s in the estate. I didn't think I would be able to feel this on paper difference but I'm pretty sure I could.

Anyway, I have bought the saloon and will pick it up on Friday.

Thanks to all for their advice

Congrats

Which one and from where?

I’m toying with the idea of sending mine to Brabus.

It just doesn’t feel fast enough to me!!

I'll try and post a pic later. It's black with beige interior, premium pack plus, carbon fibre interior package, 20 inch alloys.
Ex demo, 6 months old with 4k miles on the clock.

I must say it doesn't feel as fast as the 0-60 time would suggest and doesn't feel anywhere near as fast as the c63 (NA version) it is replacing.

But I have another car for speed thrills so I'm hoping I can live with this power downgrade. It does handle pretty sweetly for a big car though and I reckon the chassis could have coped with a bit more power and still not trodden on the E63's toes.

I'm assuming the brabus upgrade is mega money?

Sounds nice.

Agree it doesn’t feel fast but I think it does it without the drama being turbo.

My RS4 you had to ring the neck out of and of course it would come with the aural delight of the V8

On same roads I think the merc is getting to the same points as quick/at same speed so it is just perception

I too have other toys but I just wonder if an extra 50 horses might help. It is £2.5k but keeps warranty in place which is a big bonus to me

The last road car I had remapped was the TT diesel X5 and when it went in for a service it came up on the service advisors screen in big red letters that the car had been mapped!

I don't think an extra 50 horses might help....it would definitely help! I think all remaps including piggy back devices leave a clear trail no matter what tuners claim. That's why I have never remapped a car since my young days of owning jap stuff.

There is no way I would risk the warranty on a £50k+ car, so completely agree with you on that.

£2.5k for the Brabus actually sounds quite tempting.....

I may well go for it.

Brooklands are the main fitters

I've just googled it and it seems the Brabus remap no longer retains the MB warranty as it once did.

So it would be a Brabus warranty on the engine. I know Brabus have been around for ages but I would worry that in the unlikely event of a major engine failure Brabus and MB would just point the finger at each other.

It would also mean that MB could easily refuse any claim related to the gearbox, 4wd system etc

I get what you are saying but it is being done by a merc dealer so I think that covers the playing off against each other.

Ok, so I'm a bit confused about the relationship between Brabus and MB.

I'll call Brooklands tomorrow to clarify. If a no questions asked warranty is retained I'll go for it.

Given the price of the car, £2.5k to release another 50 horses and sleep easy with a full warranty isn't too bad imho. An extra 50 BHP should transform the car into a real beast.

Smart-Brabus is a joint venture between Brabus and Daimler (i.e. Mercedes), and Mercedes is an authorised Mercedes-Benz dealership too.

An RS4 B8 ( the last one with the V8 ) is very very quick over tighter roads without a doubt, I was amazed how good it was, Yes you have to push it but its amazingly more nimble over a merc,

Love My C63 though!!

I’d say the e43 doesn’t feel that quick since it’s a little quiet and the torque isn’t huge but it is deceptive, a few times I’ve driven it I’ve been surprised by how quick it picked up speed. For the performance it’s a comfy ride and a good m-way cruiser/gt.

True, it's a tad too quiet and refined for a sporting saloon.
