E53 Coupe or C63 Standard/S/Edition 1

Brilliant choice to have. Go ahead and test them back to back and let us all know your thoughts.

Got to admit I do like the looks and fresh interior of the E53, plus at this stage the relative scarcity of these on our roads.

I’ve got a feeling that on the road these cars will have nothing between them, the 4matic helping in that respect. The lure of a V8 though is immense, but wouldn’t be surprised if you opt for the E53.

Having done (a little) digging through Parker’s looks like, part ex across these 3 would be:-

C63S 68’ 20K miles = £52765
C63S Edition 1 Motorsport 17’ = £52740
E53 Prem Plus 68’ = £51740

Obv option dependent slightly too but all looks like much of a muchness!

my thoughts would be if I wanted refinement and luxury with daily driving , i would pick the E any day of the week. It is probably an upgraded c43 driving experience with some impressive E class trimmings.

But if I wanted a brute, with a wild side more on the sporty muscle side of things it would be the C. It is as driver focussed as you can get .

E53= luxury focussed
C63 = driver focussed

I dare say ignore the coupe, get the wagon. you won't regret it

Haha!!! Memories of shear terror!!!

Have to disagree with the ‘no road presence’ - I certainly notice them!

Thanks for all the replies so far from everyone!

Nothing beats the sound of an AMG staring from cold, if the kids are young just tell them there is a beast under the bonnet and they have to be good in the car , if they don’t it will get very angry :D:D:D

Hello again guys, well I had the pleasure of testing a C63S Edition 1 back to back with an E63S....what a pleasant day that was!

Initial thoughts, the C63S - the noise, wow!!! I loved the driving position in that car and the interior of the E1 is very nice, it’s so focused, it goes like stink naturally BUT I was a little nervous of the back end, on a couple of occasions the traction kicked in and I’m just not sure if that’s something I’d get used to or would make me hestitate in using the car properly particular on those wet days trying to nip around something or out at a junction. Bare in mind this is a car I’ve lusted after for years as well....

The E63S - that thing took my breath away, never experienced anything like it - I can only liken it to what it must feel like to be launched off an aircraft carrier, the power is just relentless! Incredible machine! Practical too with plenty of room in the back for little ones etc, like the digital screens too - stepping out of it my hands were shaking from the adrenaline rush! Amazing!

Now - the specific car I drove I’ve since found out is actually the same one that Harris drove on top gear a while back AND that Car Wow used to thrash up and down a runway....so a press car....I’ve not made any offers yet just wondered about thoughts on that, would you?? It’s current condition is pretty good and it would be in for service before I got it (if I got it ).

Cheers!

I'm glad to hear that the E63s stole your heart and it sounds like an E53 coupe may not satisfy all of your adrenaline needs. It is a shame that Mercedes aren't going to produce an E63s coupe (but that's another story) to be able to tick all of your boxes.
Would I buy a press car, probably not, but unless you know the history/previous owner of any other car you are considering then there is no guarantee that it hasn't also been thrashed. We see these press cars being hammered IMO more than the average owner would his own car, so on that note I would probably take my chances with another example.

True....it’s very hard to know the (true) history of most cars these days, I’ll keep looking, there are one or two examples that tick the right boxes kicking about - just wondering about an E1 version of the E class - slightly out of my price bracket but unjust wonder if they’d hold there value better than a standard car. Horses for courses I guess....

The problem will always be with a press car is that you’ll always *know* that it’s been ragged about, at least with others - ignorance is bliss - you can envisage the pervious owner being someone who just tootled about in it to the shops etc...

In my daydreaming I can see them holding better, but in reality I'm not sure the Ed1 is holding it's value any better than the none Ed1 as they are both dropping like lead balloons although as you would expect the used car market still indicates that you have to dig deeper into your pockets for one.

Exactly my point and we all know AMG owners never go over 3000rpm in their own car so you know it will have been looked after.;)

another chap bought a c63 press car and his experience was pretty horrendous . I'll see if I can find the link again. I posted it on this forum. looks like there was some prior damage etc that he may not have been pre warned about by that specific dealer, instead they claimed it was a manager's personal car. at least these guys are being upfront with you on this car .

I expect the dealership was boasting about the top gear and car wow history more so than being completely honest.
Regardless, I wouldn't like the idea of owning a press car. Surely there are quite a few nice examples on the used market to go for too?

The C63 is a beast. I don't have the S, only the 63, but it's definitely enough for me. I don't track the car or realistically don't even get to drive it to it's full capabilities with the fact I travel so much however I would always recommend one to someone.
The E63/63s on the other hand is a different beast. I would love one, all the power and the stability of AWD. Interior is fantastic too but you just have to weigh up wether or not it's worth the extra cash to you.

Good luck car hunting! It should always be a fun experience.

Year old E63S for that price..
4 matic / dazzling interior

0-60 in 3.2 in road tests

0-62 in 3.4 'officially'

189 mph in Germany...

and capable of '30' mpg...lol......

E63/E63s all day long.

4matic, interior and phenomenal first-year depreciation are deal-closers for me.

Personally, I'd steer clear of the press car - but will still be under warranty, which you can always extend.

I appreciate some people dont want a hardcore V8, but spending £50K+ and not getting a full-fat AMG engine seems a bit bonkers.
