Hi there.
I am a newbie to the site so ill try to make this as painless as possible:)
I drive a 2005 E55 AMG and the only mods are panel filters and a remap. Recently the rear dampers feel like there in permanent SportsII mode. Even in comfort mode they feel stiff yet the front operates as it should. My garage has had it on STAR and it is reporting no faults?? Yet if he operates the rear dampers individually through star, then they work fine, individually until he disconnects star?
Any ideas or help would be appriciated.
Thanks.
Mark.

what is the condition of your rear tyres? are they over/under inflated?

Sounds odd, are your rear subframe bushes ok? If they are shot it can make the ride feel hard and twitchy

Rear tyres are fine and at the proper pressure.
Subframe bushes are fine too.
Just find it strange that the dampers work individually when operated through STAR!
Only work I had done recently as this happened was all brakes replaced and a new airmatic compressor as old one was showing "visit workshop".
My garage is claiming I need 2 new dampers but I find it strange that both have gone at the same time! I also thought there maybe some connection with the height corrector but my garage said its fine as all the air side of things is perfect, meaning it sits fine and lifts when asked to.
I'm at a loss as dont wanna she'll out for new dampers if its something stupid.

Thanks.

Mark.

could be a leak in the valve block also, i would do to another garage and get a 2nd opinion

Where would I find that Alps? Just find it odd that the dampers operate properly when plugged into STAR yet are stiff when the cars electronics are doing the work. I mean the rears are stiff but not enough to feel very rough and they do alter when SportsII is pressed:( I am mechanically minded but am stumped at this one.
I initially thought it could of been new pump related as it seemed to have happened since it had been fitted? But that only operates the airbags as such. Can't understand why STAR hasn't brought up a fault:(

theres a rear valve block and a front one (which supplies the rear), the rear one can be seen easily near the iff, just follow the pipes when on a ramp, the front is near the pump and all the pipes go into it.

tbh, it does sound odd as all star does is control the valve block and if it works then it shouldnt stop when star is not connected.

check for leaks, rear reservoirs are a common leak too.

Thank you for that Alps, I will get in touch with my garage and get him to check that out and let you know the results. It is annoying as while town driving I always use comfort mode yet the rear feels like its in sportsII so spoils the ride.
A massive shot in the dark but would the remap i had done have any affect on the suspension settings? I noticed a slight difference in power after the map but nothing startling and it was mapped from a hand held device so its not a bespoke live map specific for my car? Just a thought?

no probs, remap would not effect the suspension settings

Thanks again Alps. Just out of curiosity could the fitting of the new pump cause this problem? I mean my garage said it was a straight forward job with one plug and one air pipe connection but could he of disturbed any of the nearby pipes? If so would these pipes cause the rear dampers to go stiff? Sorry for the questions but the ride is annoying me now lol.

where are you based?

Sorry alps but does the valve blocks supply the dampers or the air bags? As the airbags are operating perfectly and sit evenly too.
