AMG’s senior powertrain engineering manager, Jorg Gindele, has revealed the company is testing a C63 AMG 4MATIC.

Speaking to Auto Express, Gindele said the company has already built a prototype and he knows this "because it’s my car.” Gindele withheld details but said the model is currently being evaluated and could be approved for production.

Gindele also confirmed AMG is developing an all-wheel drive version of the next-generation S-Class. He didn't say much about the model but it is likely the S63 AMG 4MATIC.

More interesting, Gindele said the company will offer an E63 AMG Black Series towards the end of the current generation's lifecycle. There's no word on what will power the model, but we wouldn't be surprised if it is more powerful the E63 AMG S which has a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 engine with 585 HP (430 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque.

The plot thickens ........

Black series cars need to be lightened etc. A stripped out E class would be hilarious but a sales disaster.

Shame we won't be seeing any 4-matic AMGs hitting our shores...

Black Series E63 seems to be more of a marketing exercise to me?

It's too big and heavy.

Would rather see a lightweight Black A45.

How about this:

Yep, was just sitting here thinking that's what it's for, you want to beat a Nissan around Australia you are going to need something very potent indeed!!!

Why would it? - Im sure MB know there market pretty well and they wouldnt invest without knowning what the returns are.

Saloon cars with hardcore racing seats, not much sound deadening and a crushingly firm ride just won't be popular.

They will be on a track, that's the whole point here, homogolation for racing, no so much showroom sales I suspect.
