Please can someone reccommend me some good track/summer tyres that are also still reasonable in the wet.

I know the obvious choice is the MPSS's but thats rocking in at just under £1000 for four.
And im hoping to keep things around the £750 mark if possible.. i dont mind stretching if people unaimously say MPSS's but is there anything else people are using that they really liie? i was thinking Yokohama ADVAN Sport V103???

Also tyres SIZES - Can i run anything bigger than a 285 on the back? the 255 is more than suitable for the front, but i'd love to try and get a 305 on the back of the Merc.

Thanks!!

By all accounts you'd want the MPS4S tyres but I doubt they could be had for £750.
You shouldn't mind stretching, you own a mapped E63.
I'd want the best there is, regardless of cost.

Goodyear assymetric work well on mine not sure the cost difference between those and the pss

Ps4s can be had for just under £900. They don't do 285, but yanks run 295 easily so it should be ok

I have advan 105. Incredibly hard wearing tyre, 6k miles at 6mm at present. Grip quite good but not good enough for 680bhp when you are fully on it in 1st and 2nd gears.

Its not a case of not wanting to stretch, its just they dont last 5mins due to the camber wear, same as on my GTR when i had that.
When i got to MSL and Amio looked over the car he explained they are very common for wearing the inner edges on the rears.

If there is nothing else better than i'll go with the Super Sports as i had them on my RS6 and they were great, but wear wasnt such an issue on that, i just want good value for money.
I've never been one to scrimp the car gets the best of everything whenever it needs it.
I service her interim myself frequently from Gearbox and diff to engine oil and regular air filter cleaning.
So dont assume that i dont want the "best" as i do... it just has to be a practical cost vs wear and feel.

Thanks man, i looked at those... do you rate them? cost wise is roughly the same but everyone says MPSS i was just looking for a varying tyre ideas.

Ahhh i see i see, so i'd have to run a 295/30/19 if i opted for these? i didnt get grip on the Conti Sport 5's in 1st and 2nd i've come to accept grip isnt going to happen with 880ib/ft haha!

I rate them yeah, I would expect them to last longer then the michelins and be better in the wet, but probably won't have the dry weather performance but I'm yet to have run mpss on the amg

I got Goodyear on the back of mine and rate them highly, though they're the slightly older Asymmetric 2 and not the 3.

Plenty of grip and they seem to be wearing reasonably too. No idea what the Asymmetric 3s are like, apart from being much cheaper than the 2s. :(

Do you run into traction problems in the dry with them? i mean nothing is gonna get the power down in first but whats 2nd like? can you get most of the throttle down without any issues?

the good years are pretty good, i have them on the back on mine too, its the 2nd set ive had on.

I get traction problems & mine is stock. I dread to think how you lads get on. [emoji23][emoji23]

Well i priced up some AD08's coming in at just over £1050

The Pilot Super Sports i can get for £856 delivered.

Thats 255/35/19 and 295/30/19

Think the PSS's might have to be the way to go, god knows i love a set of R888R's or AD08's but the price is stonking and the wear rating on these is pretty high.
I just dont wanna lash £800+ on the MPSS's and find them last me 6k miles, i dont drive silly hard and i might get one or two medium paced track days in but nothing major.

Thats my biggest concern, bang for buck.. i dont want a super hard useless tyre but i equally dont wanna drop another £850 in 6 months time when i've done 6k miles you know?

MPSS keep getting mentioned.
MPS4s are the replacements and by all reviews are even better in the wet.

Just a side note, you will get a lot of wear from the camber on the front on the inside edge , but the rears should wear evenly. My last set were evenly worn all the way down to 4mm from my tread gauge.

Cant help you with tyre recommendations other than I've got Pirelli p zeros on the car and they are wearing well, grip is average and they are noisy!.

It will be interesting to see if 295/30 R19 fit without issues - there is a much better choice than at the 285/30 size

From Tyreleader ?

Just watched this after reading Alex's comments... MPS4S's it is, landed a set of 4 for £878.

Cant complain.

Hi mate, where did you pick up your set of MPS4s? And what size did you go for in the end 285 or 295??
