Early W126 Door Mirrors

Is it just me or does anyone else think the door mirrors on early W126's are really useless with more blind spots than anything else? Not sure if later models suffer the same.............mine has manual mirrors. Passenger side is worst............I cant really get it set so I can see anything at all really............needless to say I have quite a bit of neck strain!!

Anyone know of any fixes/mods? :wallbash:

I'd be intrigued to hear any words of wisdom on this topic. I've got a late W126 & I agree that the field of view from the mirrors really isn't the greatest (I don't think the mirrors changed between the Gen I & Gen II cars).
Incidentally it was only the passenger mirror that was ever electrically operated on a W126. No matter how deep your pockets & how many options boxes you ticked, the drivers mirror was always adjusted by hand. As its actually quicker to move that way I can forgive them the oversight!

This may, or may not, be applicable to a 126....

107s suffer from the same. The N/S mirror is convex and the drivers flat. I discovered that the opposite is the case on LHD cars so obtained a LHD passenger glass which fits directly to the RHD drivers housing and gives a much better field of view.

As mentioned before, there was no change between gen.1 and gen.2 W126 door mirrors. They aren't asymmetrical as they are on the r107's or w124's.

If I may suggest a browse of this thread. The w124 n/s mirror is much smaller than the driver's side, and the glass isn't convex, but following the method outlined in the link in the 1st post I've not had any issues with blind spots.

For what it's worth, I was in the 300SE in the anecdote I recount(!)

I haven't found a problem , but tend to use shoulder checks anyway .

However , I have wondered if W123/W107 mirrors would fit onto a W126 as I think the chrome mirrors look more substantial and classy with it .
