When starting the car yesterday (it had been running for about 10 minutes prior to this but I had pulled into a layby to sort out a 'phone problem)I found that the starter did not engage.
The fuel guage needle rose and the normal dashboard lights were illuminated except for the gear position indicators. Both were blank although the lever was in Park and the mode selector was in S as normal
I tried a couple of times and eventually it started and ran normally. All was well until a few hours later when the car stalled whilst driivng, all the normal warning lights you see when turning the ignition on were lit and the rev counter fell before the car sprang back to life. I was driving at about 30mph so there would have been enough energy to effectively turn the engine via the transmission.
Is this symptomatic of an ignition switch failure or a problem with the key? I have switched to my other key at present and will see how this goes.
The only other thing of note is that I had the footbrake mechanism replaced on Friday as it had failed. Are there cables or connectors associated with the ignition switch in this area that may possibly have been disturbed?
Thanks.
