hi, Car is 2008 S320, 100,00 miles.

Im have a problem with the car cutting out at idle and sometimes while driving. its been doing this only the last month. When im at traffic lights or train station crossing the car ticks over fine then it just cuts out with no Engine MGMT light. Once I turn it off & back in it fires up fine and drives as normal.

Once I was at train station crossing and it was idleing at about 760 and the revs droped down to near 0 and it nearly cut out but it struggle and went back up to 760 this happened within 2-3 seconds.

When I was driving home from work last night I was driving at about 50km at about 1500rpm, then the revs droped very low close to the zero and went back up again. Once I was driving and car cut out completely, lost power steering, was very dangerous.

I dont know what going on here, there is no recorded error codes. I have noticed that the gear change is not as smooth as it used to be so i have it booked in for an oil change and STAR diagnostics hopefully they can pick something up?

Maybe it could be related to an error I get sometimes on the dash: ESP inoperative See Owners Manual, Run Flat Indicator inoperative
See this thread for more info http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/electronics/157507-esp-inoperative-see-owners-manual-run-flat-indicator-inoperative.html

Anyone got any other ideas? I just hope its not going to cost me ££

Thanks
Charlie

I want to add that, car seems to drive fine going up through the gears, but when dropping down it seems more pronounced than usual.

I cant edit post, but I want to ask, would a crankshaft position sensor cause this?

I had a similar problem which was probably unrelated. Car would start, then cut out about a second later. Driving down road to junction, at low revs, engine would also cut out. Car then started fine.

Turned out to be faulty battery. Was showing correct voltage but analysis of the battery acid showed it couldn't hold any charge. Mine was a 2005 model.

May be worth getting your battery looked at (check each cell) and not just voltage?
