SLC300 - C250d Estate 4 Matic & Z900rs
I put the car in for a B service (21,000 miles), usual oil change, oil & air filters, brake fluid etc, nothing untoward required. Collected the car & managed 300 yards before noticing it refused to rev above 2500rpm and was leaving a smoke trail behind me.

It's now back with Mercedes awaiting a strip down to find out whats gone wrong. Anyone like to guess what the problem is?

The garage is going to phone me next week, until then I can only guess?

Russ

The garage phoned me after taking it back to the workshop and reckoned it was blowing coolant out of the expansion bottle so they would lift the head off and check the gasket. They say it is coincidental it happened just after the service.

Russ

is the car still under warranty ???

I'm not very technical - but how do you lift the head off to check a gasket - once the head is off a new gasket has to be fitted --or it was the case when i last did any work on a car many many years ago... is there oil in the water? water in the oil? doesnt star tell them if there is a problem like this? compression checks?

Your engine does not blow head gaskets,, I would ask Ollie what he thinks, I think that they have drained something and not filled it again,, Its been known before

The only good thing is it is still under warranty.
If Ollies about, any ideas?

Russ

You know it's funny I've got a AMG sitting in the shop right now with bit's of her destroyed engine on the tiles.

Happened just after a service, threw a rod and blew 3 holes in the thing but still managed to battle on for a few minutes after it happened to pull over.

Anyways doesn't sound coincidental to me, unless it was running iffy before hand.

These post upset me, the head gaskit does not blow just like that, they would have deen the moiture in the cap even if they pumped out the old oil, I bet they forgot to put new oil in, and not for the first time

He should have gotten a warning, low or high oil level

I've had it for a year now, and the engine has never missed a beat. It was serviced at 10,000 miles and again at this one, 21,000 miles. Mobil 1 on both occasions.

Sound's like they messed up doesn't it.

Malcolm, its more than a simple light.

Yes I know dan, these post upset me:mad::mad:
I know mate, i agree they messed up i just don't think they forgot to fill it with oil.

If my cluster was lit up like a baboon's ass i would notice it immediately.

No warning lights were on. After I stopped, I phoned the garage and they came out to where I had stopped. They asked me to start it again, still no warning lights, only smoke from the exhaust. It was only after they took it back to the workshop, they phoned to say that coolant was being pushed out of the expansion bottle and the coolant hoses were expanding.

Then as neither the mechanic nor the OP saw this light - it may well rule out the theory of no oil......

One knows really that it was not no oil, as it would have rattled badly. I just have never known a head gasket go in 300 yds from cold, and put it in the limp home mode
