Hi all
I was driving a normal route to see someone and it is a 4hr journey, I have done this many times and no problem, but this time I had a red warming light come on the dash !!! it said something like "Engine Oil Warning" too much fluid, remove some"" or something similar
now all the oils were ok and none added since the last trip to same place.

very confusing as I have not added any oil at all.

when i arrived at destination and it cooled down for 20 mins the "Malfunction Message" had gone !!

any help would be appreciated as going to do journey again next week.

Cheers.

Have you checked the oil level now? Are you having fuel contamination into the oil causing the level to rise?

The trouble is you'll never know for sure if the problem was real or the electronics imagined it. Electronics is a stupid way to measure oil level when a dipstick does it with a certainty that removes any possible doubt. If the car doesn't have a dipstick I think they can be bought.

Engine oil expands with heat. If your engine was "brimmed" when last serviced, then expansion may well trigger a warning. For this reason MB usually fill it just under full, which in some instances can give a low oil warning when cold.

The easiest way is (as said above) is to buy an ebay dipstick for your engine model. If it too high then you should suck a little out using vacuum pump or the garage who serviced it.

Cheers guys will look into this at the weekend

Many thanks
