How nuch do you mean by slightly 5mm, 10mm, 15mm?

Check that the car is absolutly level when dipping.

My guess is 5mm would be okay, 5-10 maybe, 10mm+ i would drain a bit.

Hi yes I haved decided to drain it away back to exactly where it should be!.

Accelarated hard and a "gong" sounder together with the "Hi" signal together with the Oil sign.

When driven lightly it is Ok!

Is it a complex procedure. Mercedes charge £95 + vat to simply to talk to you!

Should be an easy job, just suck out the oil using the dipstick tube.

Either find someone/somewhere with a topsider, or failing that try a large syringe and a long piece of tube (might take a little more time)

Bearing in mind that you are only looking to remove a very small quantity of oil (ie, a few hundred mils at a guess?) you could probably get away with using a large syringe and some tubing.

Thanks all for your help. Mercedes actually did it for me today and wait for it "FREE" NO charge!...was stunned as i expected tp pay that £95 plus vat!

Ok I have a 2001 500SL, bought 1 month before the new shape came out. Got it from Benz dealer...when it had done only 12000 miles.I dont really like the new 500Sl it looks a bit space age to me!

500 Sl Rattle!???

I havce noted a rattle that is not coming from the engine but from under the bonnet only when the car is in traffic and the engine is hot!

Anyone expereince this..sound like something expanding and rattling !

Any ideas..Mercedes will explore further on Friday
