Engine pictures

That's very clean!

Nowhere near as clean as del320's though, probably just testament to a good engine bay design = pretty much self cleaning.

It gets hit with the garden hose every now and then but I haven't had the guts to put snow foam on beforehand.

Apart from cloths, cotton buds, a propensity to perform seemingly endless tasks continuously and a few joints of marijuana, just how do you clean the engine bay?

A hose shifts dust, but not grunge,[which is better than shifting all the oil and then getting corroded/rusty parts] is it safe to hit it with snow foam first then a quick hose?

How do you keep yours clean but not corroded??

I've never been afraid of jet washing, but would never fire a slim jet anywhere in the engine bay. I use a gentle (Low or non-caustic TFR) and a wide fan spray on the jet wash and rinse thoroughly. I think if snow foam was used a fair amount of rinsing would be required.

This one below of Druk's looks like new, so he's probably best placed for some advice.

Do those air filters increase performance at all?? Also what kind of sound do they make ??

They make quite a bit of noise and have only seen gains so far at speed and high rpm, only downside is heat at low speed.

That's 'cos it is! (1981 R107 300TurboDiesel)

As WDB124066 says, good design - and not just 124s - means the engines don't really get mucky anyway. Once on top of it, it's pretty easy to keep it that way as part of the routine of cleamimg the rest of the car.

So would a cooler air intake away from the engine be a more sensible option then !??

lol

mate, you should see some of these guys cooling systems.

Custom fabricated ice coolers and the like!

My old 3.8 Jag - sold many years ago

Thanks for that one. Brings back memories of the Mk7 I had in the 60s (when I was 18). Basically the same XK engine. Even better than the Porsche 944 I sold last year:

See if anyone knows this belt & pulley arrangement and what engine it belongs to.

:)

With the R racing exhaust system it sounds quite nice :)
