Afternoon all, I was on my way to the bank this morning following a van that said "engine rewinds" on the back and I wondered what that meant in layman's terms (for layman, read 60 year old woman). Anyone have time to explain?

It's a type of repair for an electric engine :)

Oh thank you all! (Especially moonloops who made me smile!) Because it also referred to carburettor repairs, I jumped to the conclusion it was fossil fuel engines.

Perhaps they just mean an overhaul and a decoke, "rewinding" it to when it was newer.

This forum is brilliant, isn't it? Not only do I get the real answer, I get to smile, too!

It's about rewinding electric motors...nothing else.

Probably, but it's not normal for anyone technical to refer to an electric motor as an engine ... which would introduce some doubt for me.

True, but maybe Lisa substituted "engine" for "motor"...who knows...

It's possible they mean "refreshing" rather than "rewinding"?

My first guess would also be rewinding an electric motor.

...and me, especially as it was seen in conjunction with "carburettor repairs".

I must resist variable jokes in the current thread. Camerafodder probably has ample though.

I don't have much capacitance for these kinds of puns.
