Any ideas, engine temp gauge fluctation, around town or motorway the gauge goes from 80c to 120c up and down like a rev counter, Heaters OK set it for hot and dont feel like Im getting cooked, But can hear the elec fan humming away, lift the bonnet and there is heat but not a lot and no sign of steam, is it a thermostat or a gauge problem !!

The sensor is more troublesome than the gauge , is the water level OK

The water temp senders are not that expensive, but a meter connected to it would give the answer
