Hi car is 2008 S320 CDI (W221) 100,000miles

Error messgae:ESP inoperative See Owners Manual, Run Flat Indicator inoperative

I've been having this problem for a while, usually I get this error message when I start the car, if I drive the car for 2 mins and turn it off/on the message is still there but disappears after one of two mins of driving. The problem is intermittent and only happens once or twice a week, maybe less.

One thing that I noticed is that when I start the car and error message appears if I drive the car,the rear suspension of the car seems very hard and going over ramps is very bumpy, doesnt seem smooth at all. Then when I turn off/on it fine again and nice and smooth over ramps.

Also cruise control doesnt work ive checked tyre pressure

Anyone seen anything like this before?

Note: I have car booked into an indy with STAR next week, but I've been reading that because the error clears after turning car on/off that the error might not be stored so just looking for some help.

Thanks
Charlie

I had both messages displayed on my E250 2009 a couple of months ago. I had it parked left side up on a curb. Drove for a while and messages cleared. I assumed that the car didn't like being parked in such a way, so avoid parking it up on curbs now.

Sounds like a faulty sensor. The systems affected all use the various sensors (ABS etc) to operate. Star should pinpoint which one. My brother-in-law had similar problem on his E320 CDi last week and it turned out to be the steering angle sensor.

Hi, yes there has been lots of problem with steering angle sensor and speed sensors. I think its a faulty sensor too. Did you brother in law experience the car driving differently when the message came up?

Not that I'm aware. Warning lights came on for ESP and ABS.Cruise control, tyre pressure monitors etc stopped working.

Yea all the sensors are linked so once one stops working the system shuts down. I have it booked into mercedes so I'll let them figure it out, I cant really do anything without STAR, my steering wheel does sit a bit to the right when going straight so maybe something to do with that, anyway thanks.

How old is your battery?

I dont know the age of the battery that starts the car since it was in the car when I got it, but the battery in the rear which controls most or all of the electronics is only 3-4months old.

Steering angle sensor was causing this issue,

Thanks
