For years on forums I have sang the praises of Event Mobile Tyres, well not any more, use them at your own risk.

The fitter trashed one of my alloys today and then argued it was kerb damage!

Oddly he only highlighted the damage to me (just so I knew ;)) after the wheel had been removed, tyre deflated and was half off the rim.

He claimed it was already there and only revealed by removing the tyre as the 'kerb protector part covered it' - strangley it was well onto the face of the wheel so this was bull.

He then claimed that it was kerb damage as there was a small 5mm section of rough metal - totally ignoring the smooth shiny and very fresh looking 2 inch gouge on the wheel, another dose of bull.

His last ditch attempt was to look at the front wheel on the same side, which does have damage - I know excatly when I did it as I have painted over it. He said it was probably done at the same time - more bull.

For the record the wheels that had the tyres replaced had no previous damage on them at all.

When it is my word against his it is going to be hard to prove, but I know he caused the damage to that wheel and didn't have the guts to own up.

Sorry to hear this Simon.

I've only used them once, found them to be great. Remember that they work out of local 'hub's' and as such is a little harsh to tar all with the same brush.

Perhaps if the company are unwilling to help, your credit card company might be?

My first experience of Event Mobile Tyres saw one of my alloys marked. I had to point this out, but it was not argued. All I had to do was call the office to report it, call them again with a quote to refurb the wheel, then fax them the receipt once the work was done to get the sum returned to my card. Despite the hassle, it left me thinking they handled my partucular incident fairly well.

Given the fundamemntals of a tyre fitting service, I wish sufficeint care was taken to fit them without damage in the first place. I am sure these incidents needn't be so frequent. I think Event in particular can be in a hurry, but I rarely feel comfortable when it comes to having new tyres fitted on any vehicle with alloy wheels.

I am really sorry to hear this. You should thank to god.

Yep, previously they have been great.

If they guy had fezzed up then I would have been OK with a refurb - it's the bull that came to avoid liability that really annoyed me!!!

It may not be appreciated by most who like the idea of the tyre fitter "coming to you" but the fact is that due to the limited working space in mobile vans the likelihood of "error" is more common.....having said that, an experienced professional fitter should not have too many problems, but you dont decide who you get when you buy the tyres ! further to which, there are certain questions on the accuracy of the wheel balancing on an unstable platform.....
Realistically, mobile-fit is an emergency service and I personally would only use as such....
Notwithstanding the above, make a complaint, and if it is handled more professionally than the fitting then all is OK....

Just an update on this, I did speak to Event back in July who offered to come out and inspect the wheel to determine whether the damage was due to wheel fitting, but I had (stupidly) put some touch up paint on it to protect the exposed metal. We agreed to go 50:50 on the refurb of the wheel, I had it done and sent them a copy of the invoice.

Then they saw this thread and went quiet for a few months, but I did say I would post up on the thread once it was resolved to my sastisfaction, which today it is.

So all in all, a good approach to resolving the issue, although I wish they would have contacted me directly if this thread made them decide to withhold payment rather than just leaving it for a few months.

Still one of the cheapest places to get tyres and the home fitting service is well worth a few quid anyway.
