Merc C200 Komp
I had a 50/50 car accident where both parties reversed into each other.. the damage is merely a scratch on my bumper !!!

Cut a long story short, I am meant to get a replacement car whilst my car is at the Garage for repair...
Guess what? The courtsey car doesn't arrive from the day it was meant to come until the day I get my car back...

I complain to tesco's about it... they give you a financial compensation figure of UP TO 15 Quid a day !!! Wow !!! - try hire a car at the price !!!! You should be able to get a bashed up 2 door 1981 Ford Capri for that !

Anyway, I used my wifes Merc to get to work and back... no receipts to give etc so I tell Tesco's this !! They refuse to compensate me unless I give them a receipt of some sort..... ! !!!!!

What Receipt am I meant to give if I haven't got one.. The Merc was full of pretrol when I got it.

Tell Tesco's that and they tell you to get stuffed !!!! Yet, the booklet does not even tell you that you need to give receipts !!!
I am going to find another Insurance company - one that does give you a car when you are meant to get it !!!! And probably cheaper too !!!!

I am soo p....ed about this.. I am innocent and yet I feel guilty about asking for some compensation, even after I told Tesco's that I used our own alternate car !!!! :o
Anyone know what I can do legally? Or even illegally

Given that Tesco replacement car cover costs something like an extra £12 per year, it does seem like a very good deal . . . almost too good to be true ?!?!

What was their excuse for not being able to provide a car ?

Complain in writing to Tesco's, detailing briefly what the problem is. Copy this letter to the General Insurance Standards Council who will usually do nothing until Tesco have officially responded to our complaint.

how is it good?

Tesco's are telling my that 15 quid is ok !!! How? A hire car would have cost me 24 quid a day at restricted milage...

The reason why I didn't get a car is because "Enterprise", the car people had to change all their cars around for the new plate numbers that came in on the 1st Sept.. !!!

That is crap... they knew that I needed a car because Tesco's told them to call me with a Reference etc... they did that alright. !!!

If you had to pay for a car to get you back and forth and then you are only paid less from the Insurers for compensation, how does that make it ok?

I am thinking of doing that R2D2... I am just so annoyed that I have to go through the hazzle of this all now... why can't they help me rather than stab me !!!!

Who is the General Unsurance Standards Council?? Is this the Ombudsman??

Kind of as the Insurance Ombudsman doesnt exist anymore. Tesco's have to conform to to GISC rules. Next up is the ABI, then the FSA!

I agree with you - Its clearly not OK !!

I'm also with Tesco, and my point was that the £12 per year extra that they charge in order to provide a courtesy car SOUNDS like a very good deal. If Enterprise were unable to provide you with a car ,for whatever reason, you would have thought that Tesco should have an alternate supplier provide you with one.

If they have it written into their T&Cs that they will only give you £15 a day if they are unable to provide a car - then this would seem not enough to reasonably compensate you. Unfair contract terms ?

In the guide - page 15....

If you have acopy of the "Your Policy" book, page 15 -- I quote:

If due to circumstances beyond our control we can not arrange a Hire Car for you, we will reimburse your transportation costs to a maximum of 15 Quid per day for the Hire Period.
End Quote

I guess when we get car insurance and the Book that comes with it, one needs to sit down for an entire 12 hours and scrutinise the details of the policy .... !!! Damm... I should have done that shouldn't I - even though Tesco's say that they GUARANTEE to give you a car !!!! Quote:
Better than a courtesy car!
End quote

I want to go and burn Tesco's offices down !!!!

Does this mean that the Booklet that Tesco's have given me is out of date... I rabbits on about the Ombudsman part on the first page !!!!!

Can I throw that at the Insurance Council too and let them know that Tesco's are really out of contact with the real world

I think its UK Insurance Limited, that actually provide the cover - Tesco's just front it . . . so careful where you throw the petrol bomb !! ;)

"If due to circumstances beyond our control we can not arrange a Hire Car for you, we will reimburse your transportation costs to a maximum of 15 Quid per day for the Hire Period."

And for that period it would be reasonable for you to be asked to supply receipts for your transport costs

" guess when we get car insurance and the Book that comes with it, one needs to sit down for an entire 12 hours and scrutinise the details of the policy "

guess you should really, being as it's you that is signing the agreement saying you accept the terms and conditions - we are back to that old "Caveat Emptor"

As far as the law goes they are probably acting within the terms of the contract you signed. As far as customer service goes - it stinks and I certainly wouldn't use Tesco in the future.

I think they both deserve a beating ...!!!!

Considering that the cow on the phone sounded like a stuffed grunting hog and her "Team Lead" had nothing better than to say "its not possible to do anything", I think I should throw more than 1 bottle !!!!!

I hate it but you are right....

I know you are right and I am the idiot for not looking into the T&C's more closely... on top, "let the buyer beware" never seems to disappear even though you are innocent at all times.. !!!!

Receipts... How does one produce receipts when the only evidence there is is the Car Mileage on the Merc's mileage counter !!!!
I can't print this out and give it to them? - sorry, appologise for my sarcasm but I still mad about it ... no offence to you and hope for forgiveness

I will right a few letters and maybe use a SPAM attacker to send a Hate Tesco's mail to the UK !!!!!

Fill the car with Petrol - get a receipt, and send it to them ... you never know - you might just get it back !

I wish for a lot I Guess....

ok, let me try this first - fill the car with petrol... then I will try R2D2's comments - complain... then I will bomb them after !!!! :bannana:

One of these has bound to work !!!! ;)

tee hee - get all your friends to put £15 of fuel in their cars and send Tesco one receipt for each day or all go down together and you take the money off them then pay for all the fuel in one big hit - that way you get your receipt and have some fun on the way.

If they give you prepaid return envelopes to send any replies attach them to a housebrick wrapped in brown paper - that really really winds people up :)

how about this....

my wife has stated that she will printout an invoice to me for using the car... Now that should work!!!! ?????

Here is the latest....

Tesco's have said that they will now pay UP TO 15 pounds a day... subject to receipts and their verification....!!!!!

ok, so what is really..2 pounds a day???

Insure with someone else now... enough is enough !!!!

Not trying to put you out but I thought I heard somewhere that an invoice must have a VAT number to be valid. Any accountants to confirm this?

Hope you do get you due refund.

Regards,
swl

an invoice from your wife should be fine....but, I'm sure the financial experts here will tell you that she will then have to declare her earnings to the Inland Revenue and you may be on sticky ground with your insurance if she has "hired" you the car. This could get complicated.

My suggestion would be that you compile a list of "out of pocket" expenses and present that to Tescos.

Take your insurance elsewhere and put the whole mess behind you.
