ok, i've had my '97 c280 sport for around 6 months, and I am planning a few upgrades beginning with the exhaust.

I'm thinking replacement cat back pipe and silencer as opposed to full system. After something that isn't too loud, but sounds nice under acceleration.

Any suggestions, weblinks or prices?

Hayward & Scott are supposed to be good, LongLife are OK (various branches). Both will make you up a custom stainless steel system, run a search for posts here.

I bought a kosher AMG back box on eBay which I got LongLife in Carshalton to fit, then later went back and had the centre muffler removed and replaced with straight pipes and a Y piece. Pretty happy with the result, car was virtually silent 90% of the time before and has a bit of rumble now without being in any way excessive.

As a guide, removal of the centre box cost about £115 IIRC.

Did a search, interesting info. I think i will stick to something off the shelf as opposed something custom made. People seem to go for Remus or Sebring offerings...any suggestions of type/model that may be suitable for my car?

if ur looking for performance upgrades exhaust isn't going to get u far. Try investigating ecu remap?

call me superficial, but i was mainly going for looks and a nice sound angle as opposed to performance gains!

The AMG rear boxes look great (IMO) but I didn't find any significant change in exhaust note with mine, hence the removal of the centre muffler ... which is spot on now.

Edit ...
