A while back someone posted a enquiry about rebuilding EZL ignition units. BBA-REMAN use to do them but seem to be running out of units to rebuild http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?content=mercedes_ignition_commonly_failing?? I found this company in the states who apparently rebuilds them and other early Merc electronic components like throttle body actuators. http://www.4mercedes.com/index.htm
They seem expensive but if you are stuck for an EZL unit then maybe worth a look? http://www.4mercedes.com/ezl.htm

Germany is the place to buy this stuff. Not only do they often speak better English than us the prices are lower too !

One of these days I would love to get my hands on one, just to see what goes wrong

A few firms in the states still sell them, one here

The US EZLs are different from UK/German vehicles. Their engines had to be detuned significantly to meet their requirements at the time so the EZL units are different to accomodate this.

The 8 pin versions as used in the later 1988 onwards V8 W126s are extremely rare to find. I have been led to believe that the 8 pin versions were not repairable. I contacted BBA remans, who at the time listed a replacement 8 pin model but confirmed they cannot repair these models and hence cannot supply them either.

You'll be looking to pay £300+ at breakers for them, i bought a salvage 560SEL as it was cheaper than a replacement.

I should have a non working one floating around in the garage :D

Let me know

Is there any chance of borrowing it, I will pay the postage both ways.

I do have sophisticated test equipment to analyze what goes wrong and why.

If the fault is in the output semiconductors, they can be replaced.

No probs, don't know if it works or not. Its a twin 4 pin version, just PM me your address and i'll send it.

Don't need it back either and don't worry about postage costs.
