F1 2019

The introduction of low profile tyres might change how drivers treat kerbs. Sausages and sawtooth edges won't be sidewall friendly.

Not sure that it will change that much. GT, Sports Prototype and Touring cars have been on 18" for decades and they are not exactly kerb averse:dk:

What is will do is to allow a much less movement in the tyre and more in the suspension to give a stable aero platform. More compliance in the suspension should give more mechanical grip at lower speeds which will enable them to act as more traditional racing cars rather than aerodynamic projectiles.

"Cost cap

For the first time ever, F1 will introduce spending restrictions. A cost cap will be set at $175m per team, per year, and applies to anything that covers on-track performance."

I'm looking forward to how the teams interpret that regulation....

It doesn't include salaries of some of the top execs. I wonder if the top teams will promote some of their engineers to 'execs' to remove their wages from the cost cap

And lawyers?....

Watching P2 at the moment. The circuit looks pretty bumpy.

Me too! I watched FP1, very very bumpy circuit. All teams are allowed to use 2020 prototype tyres as well as their normal tyres. Mercedes were 8th (LH) and 17th (VB) in FP1 but I think they were doing a lot of data capture for next year, seeing as they have tied up both championships.

FP2 so far is a bit more normal, top 6 being the usual suspects.

It'll be more interesting when the cars are in race form as they'll be heavier.

I was just thinking of the effect potholes have on low profile road tyres and equating it to a castellated kerb.

Might be interesting to have more suspension movement in the suspension mechanism rather than in the tyre. Could lead to some useful performance gains/losses. Definitely brings the chassis boys back into the game.

With the return of Venturi floors to generate downforce (rather than a flat floor), it also looks like high-rake, pitch-sensitive cars will be thng of the past. This may negate some of the Newey effect at RBR as he seems to best understand how to get the most ground-effect downforce from a flat floor. Again, will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

One comment I heard yesterday is that the cap on spending should have been brought forward to limit the funds spent by the big teams now as they design the 2021 cars using the current funding model.

It'll be an interesting 1st corner/lap today considering the top 6 line up and with yesterday's qually with MV and LH where LH overtook MV yesterday for track position, then MV overtook him going off the track.

MV has shown some good competitive race form this year and it does make me wonder if he is going through some form of counselling to contain his "I'm coming through" attitude to have calmed down. It makes me wonder if LH bailed out on his last qually lap thinking - let them start like that as either one upfront would be unwilling to give up a place moving LH up the grid.

Either way, I hope LH takes his 6th WDC today and game on

Can't see Lewis not doing it here, he needs to finish 8th regardless of where VB finishes. He needs to keep himself out of trouble on the first lap but I'm sure he wants the win to win the WDC in style

A win would be great and I'm looking forward to this one although I'm sure MV is still frothing with the LH & SV interview about MV. I'm looking forward to LH taking MS records.

As posted (by someone else, not me) on t'other side, can I please ask folks not to post spoiler posts until well into tomorrow Monday so those of us that don't have Sky and won't stay up late to watch channel 4 from 11pm can watch on catchup tomorrow without already knowing what happened!

Many thanks.

point taken Chris,

however, on the odd occasion that I don’t watch the race Live then I avoid entering the F1 thread. :)

No worries and will do.

My wife is now watching David Attenborough's seven worlds on the big screen. I might have to walk up the road to watch it now. Those blue nose monkeys look cute though :-)

I'n definitely out now!

Sky F1 has Rosberg as a commentator .....

Just listen to the race on BBC RADIO 5 LIVE?

Big congratulations to all. :D
