I had a problem with the windscreen wiper hitting the cowling on my 1997 facelift W210. This is how to remove and adjust the wiper start (park) position.

Tools required:
1 x Phillips screwdriver
1 x 10mm open ended spanner
1 x 10mm socket
1 x 5mm Allen key
1 x 13mm spanner or socket
1 x Adjustable wrench (optional)
1 x Large flat blade scewdriver

Lift plastic cover towards the wiper blade and slide out.

You should then see an allen key bolt which holds the wiper blade to the piston see below

The wiper blade module can now be prised from the piston. It may be necessary to use a large screwdriver to prise it off. YOU MUST LIFT THE WIPER FROM THE WINDSCREEN OR THE BOTTOM SECTION WILL SLAP THE SCREEN. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED (found out the hard way).

Then lift the bonnet and you should see one screw securing each of the two upper sections.

Gently slide the upper sections towards the centre and lift away.

You should find 4 screws securing the lower trim on the driver’s side. Remove these.

There are another 3 screws securing the lower trim on the passenger side. Remove these also. NOTE: The screw nearest the wing is smaller than the rest. Remember to replace this screw or you could cause damage.

How on both sides you will find that the trim is also held by plastic lugs at the bottom edge. Prise these free gently and the trim will simply lift away.

This just leaves the centre piece remaining. Lift the trim at the front edge and slide out.

You should now be able to see the unit you need to remove.

The module is held by 2 x 10mm nuts, 1 x 10mm bolt and a rubber retainer. Remove the two nuts and the bolt. The rubber retainer is best left in place but to allow easy removal slacken the 10mm bolt that holds the plastic mounting to the front panel.

Lift the unit up and forwards and slide the rubber retainer off the unit.

Take the wiper unit to a suitable work area. It is important that you do not remove the bolt off the motor spindle (leave it in place or the wiper will do all sorts of weird things like wiping below the park point). As in the picture below clamp the linkage to avoid moving the linkage position. Then slacken the 13mm nut but do not remove fully and with a bit of force lift the linkage off the splines. You can now adjust the park position up or down as required.

When you have selected the park position tighten the 13mm nut up again.

While you have the module removed lift off the plastic cover. You can then clean the runners and piston of hardened crease. Smear with petroleum jelly and replace the cover.

Fitting is the reverse of removal. Take advantage of the trim removal and clean the area thoroughly. Before refitting the trim and after bolting down the wiper unit try the wiper to ensure that no other adjustment is needed or it could turn into an afternoon job like mine. Hope that this will save you time and effort.
