PI 054 Vito 120 CDi: Specification information

First issued: 3 March 2006 Initial information
Revised: 10 May 2006

The Vito 120CDi.

The OM642 six-cylinder diesel engine with common-rail direct injection (CDI) and fuel preheating.
An inlet-metered high pressure pump sends fuel to the high-pressure accumulator (fuel rail), where pressure of up to 1600 bar are developed. The electromagnetically controlled injectors inject the fuel directly into the combustion chamber. Due to the very high injection pressures, this system ensures excellent mixture formation, while the electronic management allows good adaptation of injection timing and quantity to current operating and driving conditions.

Multi-stage injection and a multi-stage turbo charger reduce noise and emissions and improve fuel consumption. High flexibility is provided from just 1800 rpm to 2400rpm.

Advantages at a glance:
§ High-torque 6-cylinder engine
§ First class refinement

Almost identical performance to the petrol one, but much better economy. Shame you can't have it with 4WD though :(

It would exist so that people with 1950's VW camper vans fitted with Porsche flat 6 engines could have something to demonstrate their superiority over .

Just as we have B*W's :D

Quite impressive...:) - Are you planning on getting one ?

New Sprinter CDI V6 is seriously quick too. Because it is a new model it is still having teething problems and some aspects of the quality are questionable i.e. exterior door handles.

Looking seriously at a Vito Dualiner Long 120, purely because of the V6. Was set on a VW Shuttle SE 2.5 174 before, but a Vito 120 would be cheaper.
