fastest way to transfer a private plate??

Yep, did it just before Christmas. Took about a week which wasn't bad considering the Christmas post.

I definitely say do the transfer at a DVLA office if possible.

about a week with my last one too done at local office

About a week for me too ( may have been four or five days ) done last November at the LVLO in Glasgow .

It is worth Arriving before the office opens and standing for 15 mins in the cold as by opening time the queue's are very lengthy and the wait can be hours and hours.

On getting the paperwork approved, you pay and are given a return date to collect the updated information usually a week, you arrive when specified, ignoring the queue and go to the dest where they hand you your envelope and off you go!

Never taken more than 10 days anytime we have done one ( we have 4 in our family ) always by post.

drop it off at your local office and they will send the new tax disc out that night, then approx a week for your V5 to come through.

J.

The local DVLA offices are scheduled to close later this year which means that we are all going to have to send our documents off to to Swansea when we transfer our numbers.

And then the fighting really started !!!

This is presumably transferring from vehicle to vehicle, yes?

I bought a plate earlier this year and when I wanted to transfer it to my new car I took the paperwork to my local office and it was processed there and then and the new tax disc given to me at the same time.

That is what my dealer has been told. And it will take longer.

Did it on the spot vehicle to vehicle... just need all the correct paperwork at the local DVLA.

Same here. If you go to the correct local office - mine was in Reading (which is over 20 miles away) - they can do it on the spot. Took about an hour queuing and processing it all.

Changing the subject very slightly.....

I am hoping to buy a car i am interested in, on Friday.
It has a private registration that will remain on the car consiting of 3 numbers and 3 letters (cant remember the reg of the top of my head, but its something like 653 WHM)

My plan is to sell it (it must be worth a few quid) and put a standard 1998 registration plate on the car.

Whats the best order to do things? Do i put the private plate on retention and buy a new standard registration from DVLA?

What are the associated costs of what i plan to do?

£105 to put plate on retention and DVLA will revert it back to the plate it had originally if they haven't sold it in the mean time.

MB Stafford organised it all, transferring my plate from the Audi to the new car as part of the deal. No worries!
