i thought i was in the minority....it seems not so...tab 939p richelieu red dolly sprint std apart from a webasto sunroof....triumph stag..fabulous car once i took the engine out and built it properly!!!.(put a jetwash in the water jacket and we got an eggcup full of sand out of it..itwas 12yrs old the joys of bl quality control!)...out of mexicos anglias gtvs fulvias rollers..the one i miss....my vanden plas 4litre r....it was majestic ...built like a rolls without all the problems...like most of us, needed the money for a house or something else...and spend the rest of your life regretting it.....happy days...:thumb:

sspeed...the standard set up on stags is ok,if modern stuffs is used....bin the dizzy guts ,(im going back a while, lumenition cured all the timing problems)use the 12vane waterpump and housing.....it takes ages to set the shims up.....and use german gaskets and timing chains....the bl ones lasted about 5k....bloody hopeless...the only mod i did was fit the larger core rad.....and an 86 stat.....mine never went past 1/2 way on the gauge...even in a jam.....the ford and rover conversions were terrible the engines are too light and destroy the handling....horrible!!!! not that i was ever a fan of stags...

'68 swb 911L. Period correct high compression 2.3l short-stroke engine with twin plug heads running standard cams for strong pulling power all the way from just over 1,000rpm to 7,200rpm. 176bhp to propel 870kg's, sublime steering feel and a delicacy of ride / lightness of touch nothing else has ever come near to.

2nd would be my former '72 model year '71 registered 911T. LHD with later 2.4 CIS injected engine. Leaked like a sieve (my total-loss engine) that was a waste of time revving beyond 5,000rpm but it had huge torque low down. Drove it without a care as I was expecting to build a new engine at some point, but it never let me down. Had my best time ever with my clothes on during a private track day at Elvington near York where I Learned what a 911 could be like well beyond my limits. Never let me down once (in fact no 911 has ever let me down).

3rd is probably my current W211 - it really is an excellent car.

This has been my car for the past couple of years and I have loved it. However we've had major issues and have decded to get rid of it and buy something else.

Had a few years of Audi's so now I'm moving to Merc.

best car - hard question.

My current W124 estate is probably my "best car"... its uber reliable - runs on free fuel, acres of space to cart stuff around, tows my caravan etc etc.

however I guess my previous BMW 7 series could also be deemed the best car i have ever owned, simply due to its value/age/technology it packed compared to the 124.

the 124 wins though because it does so much so well, and with class.

Favourite car? For various reasons, not all motoring related, it would be a BMW 525i, of the E34 vintage.

Suppose it was my first "proper" car.

They are sh!te in comparison.

How? I've driven golfs and they're ok but not mb nice. Not R32s but GTi and GTD. good cars but IMHO you've had better.

Fav car would be my C63 then my previous C55 but have a soft spot for my old honda prelude with 4 wheel steer. Ace car!

I had an Audi Quattro ( in red with the digital dash) which was my very first "quick" car back in 1990, I think that was my favourite. I wouldnt want to go back to one now.
Currently it's my C63. I've had 2 now so that must say something as I never have things twice. :o Even my wife is original....:thumb:

Lotus Elan S1 1600 bought from its original owner of 23 years who had it built from a kit by Lotus racing mechanics operating in their spare time in a lockup near the Chesham factory. Chassis 257 was the best handling and drifting car I've had but had never been garaged. Sold for restoration but spotted as a box of bits after the 18-old buyer gave up. Prices soared when the FIA restricted eligibiliy for historic racing but 257 disappeared.

My neighbour also had a red Audi Quattro widebody with that funky digital dash back in the late 80s / early 90s. Sounded amazing (2.2 5 cylinder turbo I think). Easily the coolest car on the road which was by no means a small road.

Digital dash in my Astras were cool - but the engine didn't sound as good...

I lived in Chesham for 9 years - not sure I knew of a Lotus factory there?

My fav's would be:

1. 348 - just a yellow badge - as they say...
2. my 2nd Tuscan 4.0 - blisteringly quick
3. 221 S Class - vastly competant
4. my first Octavia vRS - hilarious track tool
5. 996 C2 Cab - probably the best for posing.

Thanks for pointing that out. Should have typed Cheshunt. :fail

Well I'm going to make an unusual call and say my old Nissan Bluebird ZX Turbo. Having chopped and changed cars like nobody's business in my younger days, I bought it at around 5 years old, low mileage with 2 owners. Kept it for 7 years - the longest I've ever owned a car.

I can't say it had masses of character, but it just did everything well. Comfortable & quick (IIRC 0-60 was mid 8's, which wasn't too shabby in the 1990s and I saw 135 on the clock going down a geet big hill :D). It was cheap to insure (when the insurance companies had a serious down on anything with the word "Turbo" on the boot), and not too hard on fuel either. It also handled really well - I got a compliment from a mate with a 944 after a hard blast across country.

In the end it decided to chew its gearbox and that was the end of that, as it had depreciated to the point where a new gearbox was more than the car was worth. But I still have fond memories.. I'd buy another one tomorrow :).

Cheers,

Gaz

Mine has to be the current car.

Variously described on here as the best looking S211 in the country, the best specced S211 E320 Sport in the country (though I doubt if that's the case), it's such a complete car - pretty, fast, incredibly practical, economical.

Blimey - I sound like ***.

The point is, I feel it's good to love your car - it makes driving a pleasure, not a chore, and as an enthusiast surely that's what it's all about :thumb:.
