Financial Suicide....

The CL's are all costly to run.

£1000 per shock absorber
£1000 per coil pack.

etc etc.

Much Better Ollie:D

Tell me you couldn't look after it for "sensible" money

Sensible money and CL's dont mix.

Ask GreekCL how much he has spent.

Brilliant car and I love them. But bear in mind they cost serious money to fix.

As a generalisation, I reckon the reason these 215 CLs are so cheap is that they cost so much to run. Even when they were quite new I remember reading quite a few posts on expensive repairs.

If they were as cheap to run as the lesser models, they wouldn't have such a low value.

The V12 is surely the most expensive to run of the range (bar an AMG V12 :D)

IMHO :)

The voice of reason, always welcome when day dreaming and looking at car p$$n :D

Go on, you know you want it. I did the same thing, ask Olly!

I Do I DO, but it would be an utterly utterly rediculous ownership proposition for me.....

Damn fine car though.............

Thats not the idea!:doh::D

It's only money though... ;)

There are no pockets in a shroud they say, but I wouldn't much want to sell my house to fund the next service either. Immense car, I can only begin to imagine how much of a smile that would put on anyone's face behind the wheel.

Ian.

I would buy only the twin turbo one. If your going to have a CL you may as well get the best one (other than AMG)

The POWER is fantastic and no more expensive than the N/A CL's

If I had serious money, I wd buy this ... but I don't.:dk: It is absolutely beautiful.

So what are the realistic running costs of one of these (excluding fuel).

2k for maintenance and repairs? 3K? more?

Wouldn't fancy 4 struts in one hit

What is your driving profile going to be? Will it be a second, third car?

It varies so much. Please buy a good very tidy example that has had the work done already.

I can inspect one that takes your fancy if you wish. I know CL's very well

24 spark plugs?
Electrical stuff/air con?
Suspension/brakes?
Depreciation?

I guess we'd never buy anything if we were too sensible, but I guess a V12 215 is a fairly pricey car to run. Do most of the faults materialise due to age rather than mileage - reason I ask is that most of the 215s seem to have done fairly low/reasonable mileages, not like the 200k+ 202s/210s you see etc.

What about a 209 CLK500 or '55, or a nice 208 '55 ;)

Will

You will buy that CL and promptly discover why the previous owner wept with joy when he got shot of it.

The merest thing will cost you vast amounts and then you will discover that it suffers from galvanic corrosion. After a titantic battle with Mercedes Benz UK you will still be left with a very serious bill.

Strange, untraced rattles will then drive you to drink, the volume of your consumption only being limited and the even more excessive consumption of the CL.

After sinking into a decline, you will be found selling the Big Issue in Milton Keynes from the boot of your CL, which is of course also where you now sleep.

Eventually kind, caring people from the DVLA with the best interests of the Treasury at heart will sieze and crush the CL because it is untaxed and uninsured. Tragically, they will fail to notice you passed out in the in the back.

Even taking all that into account. They are brilliant cars.:thumb:
