Shmee and how much he's spent/lost on his cars over the years

Really big cultural thing in the UK that people 'hate' others who are better off/doing better for themselves.

Total opposite in the US, people actively came up to his car to praise it/him. when he was last in the US.

It is indeed a very British thing which I don't understand at all.

It often comes along with the assumption that you're either ripping people off, doing something illegal or were born with a silver spoon in your mouth. The idea you started a business, made it work and did well seems to be an afterthought!

As a society the UK seems to thrive on putting people on pedestals then enjoying seeing them knocked off, it's very odd.

I really like Tim and his videos, I don’t understand why people who don’t like him or his content are so vocal about it.

All three of his AMG GT R cost him £52-3k each in depreciation, but he drove them all a fair amount - especially the original black car - and it’s those cars which enabled Mercedes to invite him to order the GT Black Series. That’s probably the main reason for him having bought three GT R, so whilst he’s £155k down on three AMG GT, he’s probably only £80-100k down on four AMG GT. Losing £20-5k per car on average is good considering they were all brand new and used.

Depreciation is interesting. I stood out to me on Shmee's video for certain brands.

MB seems to suffer terribly with it, as does BMW on the higher end models (his M8 Comp), Audi less so for some reason. When taken as a percentage of price paid when new.

It was one of the reasons I stopped buying MB's. As my business grew and the toys I could buy got nicer, when I looked at the models I liked (S class coupes - AMG's etc) I realised I could buy something seemingly a lot more "exotic" for the same/less simply due to the huge disparity in residual values. So I did.

The recent thread with that poor chap with the E63s on which the engine has lunched itself was an eye opener. The numbers the MB dealer was throwing out for repair/replacement were absurd. They would have been absurd for an Aston, Bentley etc, never mind an MB albeit an AMG. I do hope he gets his problem solved. The behaviour of MB in his situation has been appalling.

There are of course exceptions. I never fully understood why AMG G wagons retain their value so well when almost every other (non limited) AMG model sheds money faster than it uses fuel. It's not liek they are limited supply, a quick search on Autotrader shows me 196 currently available.....strange.

Best ignore the invite to climb on any pedestal.

Dang, I've lost confidence in Shmee150.

He's sold his S211 E500 Estate because Ford seems to have given them a Turkish Transit to do the job instead.

And Tom seems genuinely distressed to have lost it.

They'll regret it.

MSRT Transit Custom. Nowt wrong with that. 😍

🧐🤔

Lost me there.
Transit was a Swaythling, Southampton product for decades. Locals are very proud of it. So proud that they blocked every planning application to update the factory. Ford finally gave up a few years back and moved the whole kit and caboodle to Turkey, where land, planning and people are cheap.

Folks from Southampton will never forgive them

And China?

That's the biggest car exporter in the World. Thanks to sales to Russia it's now bigger than Germany or Japan, and the country that's going to be manufacturing all our vehicles within a few years.

I drive through the old factory site everyday to get to my office, the train station etc.

Rolls snapped up a few, the retirement / redun package was very healthy whilst a surprising number still work in the QA teams here working on the imported Turkish trannies getting them fit for sale....

I didn't take to Scheme, but a couple of his interviews with other YT showed Tim to be a grafter, which I respect

No point blaming where any Ford is made, blame capitalism. Robots manufacture cars, British/Turkish/Chinese men/women skills play no part. UK has become less competitive and Americans have shifted production. Very simple

I’m going to be ‘that guy’ but…..Believe it or not, it’s ok to dislike someone. I intensely dislike thingo, but it’s nothing to do with him having more money than me.

His personality and style grates on me something wicked. I mean ‘The Schmuseum’? Really?

At the end of the day, there are plenty of other content creators out there - doing just as well, not sure why he’s held in such esteem to be honest.

That fine. We are all entitled to our opinion. And of course noone has to like anything.

Is worth seeing one of the podcasts he features on as himself and not as Shmee.

I’d say it’s planning that stops factories being built in the UK. You simply can’t get the sites with suitable people and sensible motorway links around.

Robots manufacture vehicles, but they need land, planning and a fascinating network of integrated local suppliers. MINI hold something like a couple of hours stock of windscreens on site. That takes remarkable supply chain management.

Minor correction: it’s the upholstery that has just two hour’s inventory on site at Cowley. Which makes sense as every MINI is bespoke and upholstery takes up a lot of space.

It’s not so clever when a collision blocks a key road for a lorry.

Can’t comment on the windscreens…

I think I saw a tv docu about this and the transport guys were getting very worried because of a crash locally to the plant.

On to the subject of you tubers, I think Mat Armstrong is a cracking you tuber, considering he was a bmx guy he has really come on some.
