Picked up the C55 today and drove 100 miles from Bristol back to London - lots of motorway, but some country roads at each end. That V8 growl is quite addictive. Getting back up to cruising speed on the motorway after dropping 20/30mph in traffic has never quite been so easy! :D

Doesn't like really bumpy roads much, but certainly seems to hold very well on tight, smooth bends. Haven't dared push the back out, but I can certainly see a need for the sensible hat when it's raining ...

Stuck some initial pics up in an album:

Cubanite silver. Have to get myself a touch up pen as there's a small paint chip that was done with a standard MB silver (talk about lazy!) that kinda stands out otherwise!

Happy with it so far. SWMBO is slowly coming round :D

It's been a journey pal!
I'm really glad that you changed tack from the C32 to the 55, you won't regret it.

Congratulations.

Great cars, fantastic engines and they just glide so nice. No effort at all in driving them and the tiniest of blips and your gone. Very nice looking car that one, wheels etc are perfect :O)

So far so good. Took it out for a little play today on some quiet roads without the missus. Tried some launches in manual mode, some without ESP, some in S. Manual changes seem to take forever; the rev limiter comes quickly in 1st; without ESP is hard to move away without a cloud of smoke; S mode does it nicely, but feels like cheating! ;o)

Only had 10 mins though .. will have to experiment some more on better road surfaces soon ..

have you stopped smiling yet

enjoy a great engine

I'll stop smiling soon enough when the tyres go! Noticed a huge amount of brake dust on the front rims too .. wonder if the last owner used MB parts or cheap replacements. Seems excessive for 4/5 big stops!

Congratulations AlanD, Your C55 car colour must be quite rare (only 142 of us in total according to "howmanyleft.com" as all the C55's i've seen are either Black or Silver!

Enjoy!

Car looks fantastic does it slow well when you take your foot off the accelerator? My SL runs at such low revs at normal speeds that if for example you come to a 30mph limit and take your foot off from 60 it just seems to continue to cruise and you have to manually change down or brake more than more "normal" cars.
Don't forget the change of spare undies in the glove box.
Happy motoring,
Don

Dunno .. haven't taken it off much yet! ;) JK ... ummm, yeah, I think so, within reason. Not as much as a manual perhaps. It is a little tricky to keep at 30mph. On the motorway, the cruising revs are around 3k or so, so I guess that and wind retard it a bit more quickly.

Pushing it through some country lanes, it was immediately apparent that curves and crests that previously hadn't bothered me much were becoming corners and bumps! Alarming way of gathering a lot of speed very quickly. I also noticed in S mode that after a while it started leaving the revs on when I backed off (eg. staying in 2nd at about 4k rpm on lift off instead of immediately up-shifting), which gives you a bit of a surprise kick in the back when it immediately gets back on max power as soon as you touch the pedal, rather than a second later after kickdown .. :D

You bought it then! Good choice, I make that at least 5 active C55 owners on here.

I think S mode may "learn" your current driving style as it seems to hold revs longer than on other/slower drives. I also find paddle mode is the best for when you fancy gunning it everywhere, like as mentioned you can downshift to help aid braking.

Enjoy!

Yup! Can't wait to get a bit of decent time in it at the weekend. :)
