Hi, I have just had a quote for my fist (A) service. A main dealer wants £280. I have no idea if that is good or bad. Can you give me some advice please?

Many thanks

Gerry

Prices can vary from dealer to dealer so try another near you; if you are not too bothered about MB Dealership stamps on your book (electronic!), go to a recommended Indy and get a price from them. You can always see if your nearest dealership will match it, of course!

Ernie

For a new car id shop around but would prefer dealer services, see what service plan qoutes you get

Start a service plan you pay monthly . And it works out cheaper too .

Michael.

Infact don't start a service plan just yet, pay the full amount for the first service.

If you take it out after the A service for say, three years, then you get B-A-B services respectively. Making that two expensive services and one cheap on the service plan. Makes no sense now on a three year plan getting the cheap one first, expensive second and cheap third.

Quote/plan will still be the same whichever way you go so go with it after its first service.

Unless of course you go for a four year plan, A-B-A-B then it makes no difference when it starts

That's the one I went for saves you a few hundred quid.
Michael.

Supply your own oil it will greatly reduce the cost.

Note that the monthly cost jumps up a bit if the car is more than 12 mths old.

Don't know if it's feasible to get the first service done, then take out ServiceCare and still be within 12 months. I guess it certainly is if the service is early due to mileage.

It does, but when major services are nearly twice as much as a small service then it's a crystal clear no brainer. Save half the cost of upfront or save nearly twice the cost?

I was pointing out the increase as it's not obvious and you really need to catch that lower rate to make it worthwhile.

However looking at the CLS rates it's cheaper to do 4yrs/4 service at £30/mth than 3yrs/3 services at £42/mth.

Even if you can pay for the first service and still pick up the £30 rate it's so marginal you might as well just buy the 4yr cover.

Ah yes I know what you mean now, I guess if the mileage went to its due point in good time, or could always pay for the first service then immediately sign up for the plan to catch that first rate

Whatever you do, if you go for the service plan pay by monthly direct debit!

I made the mistake of paying for a service plan up front.

Unfortunately I upgraded from a W204 to a W212 before the plan started and two months on, I am still waiting for the money to be refunded.........
