I can see the installation manual here on the Fiscon site. There looks to be plenty of scope for confusion but perhaps it's easier to follow when you're actually working on the car. Has anyone successfully done this as a DIY installation? If so, do you have any useful advice?

I also would like to know about any 'coding' that may be necessary after the unit is fitted. It sounds like the car's operating system needs to be made aware of the new Bluetooth unit. From what I can tell this will have to be done at an MB dealer or specialist. Is this expensive?

Its pretty easy as they supply a set of adapter cables for fibre optics. You just need to solder in the power and earth and plug and play the other cables.

However
a) The instrument cluster will need to be programmed to enable the Phone menu and steering wheel phone buttons. If you arleady have a phone menu in the cluster than that is already done. Phone menu is there always on newer cars and if the car has iPod fitted.
b) The stereo (AGW) will need programming to tell it there is stuff on the MOST fibre optic connection now. Ideally this should be done whatever, but if there is stuff on the fibre optic already (such as a CD changer, or if you have COMAND in your W211) then you can get away without doing it. But if (a) needs doing then get both (a) and (b) done.

Cheers

Thanks. It doesn't sound so hard. Who could do the programming? Is this a main dealer thing or is it best to go to a specialist? And... how much would is that likely to cost if I needed all the programming you've mentioned?
