Has anyone fitted a chrome grill to an SLK.
Is it a big deal?
How long should it take and whats involved?

I think its a simple task with the removal of a couple of screws on the top - thats wot it looks lilke to me ...

Thanks for your response.
When I inquired about a chrome grille I was asked if the vehicle had the "Distronic Option", this apparently referes to the ability of the vehicle to be slowed down automatically, almost like a reverse cruise control.

Can anyone enlighten me?

DISTRONIC is an extension of normal cruise control. Whilst cruise is engaged DISTRONIC ensures you remain at least a specific distance from the car in front. You can tell whether a car has distronic because the centre of the front grille has a black shiny bit which presumably the radar sits behind.

SLK's don't have distronic.

I fancy putting the silver/chrome grille on mine. Let me know how you go on and what they quote you pricewise if you don't mind?:)

The following are prices I have been quoted for pats only, excluding VAT;

GRILLE OPTIONS
Chrome Grille (Black) incl. Classic Star(G0130) …………...........£235.00
Chrome Grille (Black) incl. Star with Distronic Option(G0131)….£316.95
Chrome Grille (Silver) incl. Classic Star (G0132)………………...£235.00
Chrome Grille (Silver) incl. Star with Distronic Option (G0133)…£316.95
Stainless Steel Grille incl. Classic Star (G0134)…………………..£288.55
Stainless Steel Grille incl. Star with Distronic Option(G0135)……£365.00

I didn't think distronic was an option on the SLK though!

It isn't. I think the grille is actually from the SL, but also fits the SLK.

example

Edit: Try to pretend that car has different wheels :p

You can get the oem final-edition silver grill from myroadster.net for only $160, which is less than £90.

I will ask the stealership tomorrow! :)

Just to go way OT for a minute, I was down at Whitefields earlier this month. You are spot on about them being good. Went to get some screen wash and get an A-Service price. They were unbelieveably helpful! I had to check I was really in a Merc dealership. Anyway, my local dealer: £270 (inc VAT), Whitefield: £177 (inc VAT). Bit of a no brainer, booked in! I'm down there soon anyway.

This is why I don't get it when people complain about their dealerships, I've only ever had one complaint with Whitefield and that was because they washed my car when I said not to! :)

Great site Shude - thanks:D

I'm not sure I like the OEM final edition grill tho. Might look better in real life than the pic gives it justice for.I think I prefer, as I would, the SL look ones:D What do others think?

Only noticed yesterday the lovely chrome caps on my doors:D

(Sorry David - not meaning to hijack your thread)

No problem Pammy.

I think that the OEM Final Edition Grille looks good but I agree with you that the SL Grille just has the edge.

Also in the for my mercedes web site, they give "idiot proof" fitting instruction which are cool.
