A query...

I need to fit a set of show plates over my real plates for a few days...

Problem is, the real plates are stuck on with double sided tape; I presume - as there are no screws holding them on.

Ideas on how to fit show tapes over them? They're going to be at an event with several thousand people walking by, so they need to be fairly secure... but at the end, I need to drive home, so need to be able to remove the show plates....

Ideas?

I have my plates stuck onto my SL with sticky backed outdoor velcro strips. I did this so i can remove them for cleaning but it would work equally for you.

Best idea I can think off is to fit numberplate frames:

Something like this:

You fix the frames to the car (sticky pads or screws) and then you simply slide the plates into the frame.

To change plates you can open up the frame (just using a screw driver to push the clips out of the way) - the Wurth one's I have (and the one's in the link) are like that anyway.

IMHO would look much neater this way - although I guess you may not wish to remove your existing plates to fit the surround.

Put the show plates over the real ones using a double-sided adhesive pad at each end (from Halfords). Take some dental floss with you - pass this between the plates and 'saw' through the pads when it's time to come home (will take 5 seconds). You should be able to 'roll' any remains off the real plates with your fingertips.

Double sided pads & floss it'll be! Hopefully the pads won't leave too much residue...

As much as I like the surrounds... it's for three days and then the car is most likely getting scrapped (once I get it out of earls court :p)

I believe I've got a spare set of surrounds you could borrow for the show if you decide you'd prefer to use them instead - may even get to see it at Earls Court if I go this year ;)
