Due to less than an ideal amount of use my battery is flat and I can't gain access to the boot. I see from others who have had similar problems that you can give a short charge through a positive terminal under the bonnet but I can't find one that is obvious in my car. Can anyone indicate where it is in the 600? Thanks in anticipation.

I'm interested in this question too since I also suffered a flat battery in my SL500 on the weekend (as I'm rarely driving it in winter unless the roads are dry).

The car was backed up so close the the rear of the garage that I couldnt open the boot and despite managing to get it in Neutral with the confined space in the garage coupled with the fact I couldnt get behind the car and the brake disks had a layer of rust on them meant rolling the car forwards was erm... well I was bright purple and risking causing a hernia before I managed to move the car forward a foot in order to open the boot.

I looked around the engine bay for a good ten minutes beforehand and couldnt find a suitable positive charging point.

Slightly off topic but I intend to pop down to my local Lidl today as one of their todays specials is a fully automated battery maintenance charger / conditioner for cars and bikes for £12.99

Highly recommend a maintenance charger - my SL is hooked up to one every time I put it in the garage.

Welcome to the forum, nice to see another SL600 owner! Where are you located?

I agree with Bill, get yourself an Accumate trickle charger, they are brilliant. I will have a look at mine when I get home to see if I can see where the terminal is. I have to say that I can't remember seeing one on the SL to be honest.

I assume you have tried to unlock the boot lock manually with the key?

As far as I'm aware, there isn't one as it isn't necessary. The 129 has old school mechanical locks so there's no risk of running out of juice to pop the boot lock solenoid.

Problem solved! Many thanks to all who kindly replied but I'm afraid this one has to go down to muppetry. The 600 doesn't seem to have any other means of connecting up power but as advised it doesn't need it because the boot has a mechanical lock. Turn the key anti-clockwise and the lock is released to allow access to the boot and of course the battery. We are now firing on all cylinders, (or we will be tomorrow morning), and a trickle charger is on the shopping list too.

Glad to hear its sorted. I've left the SL standing for 3 months before, and it still fired up fine...this was over the summer though.
