This and that.
So where can I get a flat bonnet star for my 124?

The dealer says they're not genuine Mercedes items...

TIA

ebay

look on ebay they are genuine mb items, got mine from usa

Hey - Imadoofus - you're "irritant" pic reminds me, we used to have a stock of these, about 6 inch square, self adhesive vinyl. Managed to slip one on someone's back at the office when they leaned forward in their chair - wasn't noticed for the whole day...

47 and 56 were used, the larger type of flat badge will go where 59 is

Thanks Malcolm, but my car's a late '94 (facelift). I want a flat badge because some scrote nicked my star for the second time, and I've decided I would prefer a less bombastic flat emblem rather than another standy-up star (which, incidentally, has gone up from £16 to £25 in six months!! - but I bought one anyway)

The design is one of several I made when I got given a diy t-shirt transfer kit some years ago.

I've lost several hard disks since then, so most of the designs have long gone, but I'll try to dig up one or two of my favourites...

Watch that space

I've just read your post again, and I now see what you're saying - sorry!

How does it secure if I put it on the bonnet?

PJ

The 230 and 203 bonnet badges are 5.65 cm and are fitted with two pegs into nylon plugs

If you made a round plate the size of the hole that you have, and drilled 2 holes to fit the pins a larger plate could be put underneath to secure it by pushing on the two nylon plugs

Does anyone have access to the EPC for W204 models?

The sport has a flat badge and the standard models have an upright star. Unless they have a different bonnet (unlikely) there must now be an oem flat ornament kit. Might not be cheap mind.

What is this please? :)

Did you compare the bonnet part numbers? What is the part number for the upright bonnet star on the W204?

If the bonnets are the same (sport vs standard), if the upright star has a part number like 210/211/203/220 or something (220 seems likely) but NOT a 204 part number then we're on to a winner here I think! :D

A221 880 0086
So is the 221 bonnet star the standard item for all models now or is it only for the 204 and 221? If the 221 star is now standard for 124/202/203/208/210/211 etc then that's it I think! :)

Any chance you could find that out please? :)

EDIT: we also need to be 100% sure that all W204 bonnets are the same regardless of trim spec.

203 208 etc - A2028800186

211 - A2028800186 211 later model - A2218800186

Only one bonnet for 211 listed (1 plus supersession)

So...

124(facelift)/202/203/208/210/211 all share A202* upright bonnet ornament
211 facelift shares bonnet with pre-facelift
204/211 (facelift)/221 all share A221* upright bonnet ornament
204 can have either an upright bonnet ornament OR a flat one

Did we confirm that the 204 has only one bonnet available? :)

If there's only one 204 bonnet then it is likely that the flat ornament will work on 124 (facelift)/202/203/208/210 probably also 140 and obviously 204 plus 211/220/221

Unless my logic is miles out.

So shall I be the guinea pig then?

Might as well for £12....

Hold on to your horses for a minute mate, all we've worked out so far is that the 221 upright bonnet ornament will fit anything ;)

We need to know about the 204 bonnets then we're done! :)

Update:
nick mercedes said:
There only seems to be the one bonnet, code 954 for the flat badge (avantgarde) or -954 for the normal star.
That confirms it then. It looks like (on paper) the W204 flat star will fit anything modern with an upright bonnet ornament.

This should include: 140/124 (facelift only)/202/203/208/210/211/220/221

EDIT: my prediction from January:
S'cuse me but do we think the bonnets are the same, Sport vs. other? If so then that is a straight-swap flat bonnet-star ;)

Always thinking of the mods.

OK then.

When I get the chance (prolly next week), I'll nip to the dealers and buy one. I won't need a VIN will I?
