FMBSH but possibly additional work not done?

I'm a bit confused with the Mercedes service schedule, and additional work that needs to be done. Today I went through the service book and noticed some things were not adhered to....(possibly?)

Basically I have a 2003 CLK240 with 50k miles on it. Has had 2 each of services A and services B done. The last one was done under my ownership (service B) under the contract plus scheme.

I've found there has been no record of a spark plug change or a brake fluid change ever done! All it had done was oil changes!

Is it possbile that the additional work was overlooked by the Mercedes service departments? It has been serviced at 3 different dealerships. Or am I not reading the service schedule properly?

What should I do? I will speak to my local dealer and possibly MB customer services on Tuesday, but what exactly should I tell them?

Thanks in advance

Sometimes the book isn't filled in when the additional items are done.

You should be able to tell the brake fluid by the colour, the darker it is the older it is.

What about antifreeze as well?

If it's under service plus why not just get them to do it?

at the end of the day those items are recommended, not complusory to get a stamp, if the owner didnt want it done then it may not have been done...

also many people will not pay dealer prices for things like spark plug changes and may have this done elsewhere...

This a point I have been trying to make for several years. What is full service history? According to most, all the relevant stamps in a book. But that only says the main dealer stamped the book, to me a full service history should include all of supporting documentation. I have an E300 estate which I will soon be selling, it has a full indi service record with all supporting documentation plus all MOT's. A car I looked at in a MB main dealer said full service history, with only the service book stamped:eek: sorry, but that to me, is not a full history.

Rant over

Surely the service history is just that, the history of scheduled services. Your additional history is full repair and maintenance history.

Picky!

My view is the F is just that Full. Which means everything including additional work done and details of non-scheduled visits.

Mine is going in for service soon and is probably due a set of plugs (all 16 of them ). I did enquire how much this would be..

£321 fitted. For spark plugs. Hell's bells.

I believe mine has platinum tipped plugs, which don't need changing until ~60K. It's perfectly possible it has the original plugs in, maybe yours is the same.

I had a Toyota Supra years ago which had them fitted, fine until it's time to change them, IIRC they were £16 a pop. That had 6 plugs, now consider a V8 with twin spark heads .. :(

In my experience MB dealers often don't perform these additional operations unless they are specifically asked for.Its a "grey area" ??? Unfortunately it leads to misunderstanding since many owners assume that these operations are done because Mercedes advises that they should be performed at the specified intervals.Changing brake fluid, antifreeze and power steering fluid can greatly increase the longevity of their associated systems in the long term. A compromise is to test/inspect the fluids for degradation on a regular basis, but again only certain dealers do this. Since many owners completely rely on their dealers to "do the right thing" by their car being ignorant of what the oily bits do, its something that should be clarified IMHO

Unlike one dealer I took my car to who changed the brake fluid and antifreeze only 2 months after it had been done, then tried to charge me an extra £180 above the quoted service price.

Needless to say we came to an arrangement.

under mobilio life doesnt the dealer have to do all work that is required whether it is in the service schedule or not? Or am I really that naive...lol:devil:

Yep totally agree with this. Done a few spark plug changes on modern "V" engines due to dealer prices.

I take that as being I am naive..lol...

yes my dads garage is a general car repairs & MOT centre but the amount of plug changes, fluid changes etc we do on very new cars is unvbelievable... people are not handing over their cash to dealers without thinking about it these days!
