I have electric folding wing mirrors (is this a posh thing Up Norf when you dont have to ask the wife to get out and do it for you? Joking ladies!) on my ML, but Im not sure if its possible to have them automatically fold out and in when switching the car on and off?

Saves me having to remember to do it...forgot today and someone decided to move them for me...with their car (they work - but now one of them doesnt automatically stop so I have to manually stop it - grrrr - think they may have bust part of the mechanism...).

Sorry if its a dim question - trawled the seach engine here but couldnt find anything obvious...:thumb:

Yes.
Its in the menu on the steering wheel buttons.
Search and ye shall find..................

And a little tip..............
spray a little WD40 every now and then on the internals of the mirrors. It keeps them working smoothly and quietly.

If it's an option then it should be available to enable under the convenience settings from the settings menu.

I had mine done (e280cdi) but it wasn't on the menus, the dealer had to do it on Star

I was told not to use WD40 as it can "gum" things up etc, but to use a silicon spray lubricant (pretty cheape at Halfords)

HTH

I tried both WD40 and Silicone spray. The mechanism still 'creaks'. I am tempted to use a touch of old fashion grease on the visible sprocket inside.

Not when turning on and off, the option available is to have them fold when locking and unlocking the car. As mentioned check the cluster menu for the option. In some of the older models it needs to be enabled via STAR, dont know if this applies to yours. Email Alfie or Richard at comand.co.uk and they can advise.

Cheers peeps - I'll email Alfie through his site and fingers crossed. My ML doesn have a central cluster so Im not sure if this gonna have to be a Star thing...:dk:

Use PTFE dry lube spray sold for mountain bike chains. It doesn't attract dirt and will be super slick. I do mine every now and then and no noises :thumb:

I want mine done too. I don't have the Convenience menu at the moment :(

On my previous E Class I did the reverse and programmed mine to only work on the switch. The wires had chaffed with all the open and close which caused the mechanism to fail.

Hi Jase,

I am afraid this isnt an option available on the W163 ML. Even with STAR
it cannot be enabled.

Sorry,

Never mind, it was a great whim while it lasted...
