Formula 1 2020 (Will Contain Race Day Spoilers)

Watching the Formula 2 race, the first lap had me going boss-eyed trying to keep my eyes on what was going on. Thankfully there were not too many incidents and it was an entertaining race..
I missed most of the F2 race today as I was taking advantage of the sunshine to put some Christmas lights along the front of the house and more importantly wash a few weeks’ worth of crud off the Mercedes. Turns out it’s red!

Wasn't very impressed with the late swerving Mazepin... Seems to be a bit of an entitled knob, but I guess we’ll see more of him next year.

How much of Russells’s performance was his and his much was the car’s?

The fact he was so close to Bothas shows, to my mind, just how far ahead Hamilton is, not withstanding the negligible time Russell has had in the car and the comprises he has had to back with the seat and boots.

However good Russell is, many will say that any success he achieves this weekend is down to the car, which is of course rather better than the current Williams. I think he is an outstanding driver and I hope he does well tomorrow. Given the challenges of being new to a car that is too small for him, I think he has been brilliant so far

As for Lewis; he is on another level, though again many outside the sport or those that don’t hold an objective view, put his success down to the car and play down his driving talent.

It was shame to see Alex struggling again. He really needs a strong performance tomorrow. The sands of opportunity are for him running out, especially with Checco and Hulk hovering in the wings.

It's clear the Merc is on another level.

Mercedes management went to buy a No. 2 driver with a bag of magic beans
Came back and said we git a good deal so Bought Ass.

If Bottas gets beat today I'd ditch him and keep Russel but then I'm a bad ass.

Hi Gee
I think we all need to take our rose-tinted glasses off. I think that Hamilton is probably the best driver in the pack BUT :) Are we kidding ourselcves that he would still be a seven times champion if it ewas not for the car?

Fingers crossed for Russell and yes, it will be down to the car if he gets points but by crikey he is working hard for them :) and I want him to succeed

Maybe not. It’s obvious that a driver needs a half decent car to win a WDC but every year there’s 2 drivers that enjoy the best car on the grid and only once has Lewis’s teammate beat him to the WDC.

In his first season in 2007 he beat FA who was at the time considered one of the very best.

I’ve been watching motor racing for many decades. Don’t know about you, but my assessment/appreciation of Hamilton’s driving ability has nothing to do with my wearing of rose-tinted glasses. The only significant detractor of Hamilton is Sir Jackie Stewart and of course he has some clues about what is needed to succeed in F1. Pretty much everyone else that is well informed, puts Lewis up there with the best there has ever been.

Nobody gets to be multiple world champion without having a decent car. Nobody.

Bit of a shame but the right decision if he’s not going to be fit, too much of a liability otherwise. Let’s be honest, even a car driven by a fully fit Grosjean is a bit of a shopping trolley.

Hi Gee
I think I made it clear that I consider Hamilton to be the top driver of the current batch. Yes I have been following formula 1 for decades, my uncle first took me to Silverstone to watch Moss, Salvadori etc. Is it fair to compare drivers of a different age?? I am thinking of Senna at Monaco driving a Toleman which was no Mercedes-Benz can we compare anything to that achievement or indeed Donnington with the McLaren which was no Williams?

We can see how good the Mercedes is when we put a 6' 2" driver into a car designed for a 5' 7" person and all but puts the thing on pole. What would Verstappen, Vettel or Ricardo have achieved. When watching motorsport I have no allegiance to nationality, I like what I like and of the current batch, yes Hamilton has the edge over current drivers.

Can't edit my post but I forgot Jim Clark and perhaps another of my favourites that does not get mentioned enough ....... Gilles Villeneuve what a racer :) :)

I think if you look back at one of my earlier posts, I’ve cited Jim Clark as my pick for GOAT....

Used to get my tyres from the Mercedes main dealer but they were useless.

Well that was interesting! Mercedes threw the race away and it caused both drivers to lose a 1-2.

Very happy for Perez, he deserves a win and has given Horner a bigger headache now who surely cannot justify not signing him?

Absolutely gutted for Russell, even though he got his first points, he did all the hard work and should have been on the podium at the very least

Eddie Irvine with Ferrari and now this!!!

Well that was poor from MB, snatched defeat from the jaws of victory...

That is very apt today, loved that one from Peter.
