Formula One the jury's out.

Good, it looks like sanity prevailed.

Concur. That's a brilliant piece of news for F1 in general.

Now, who wants to bet that they other teams haven't been developing the new part just in case they lost... I wonder how many will have the modified part in China.

I think it highlights just how clever Ross Brawn is and Ferrari must be kicking themselves for letting this unique engineer go.

There is NO doubt in my mind that ALL the effected F1 teams will be using a new diffuser but I would not be surprised to see a few more appeals against how they interpret the rules :)

the others probably all have the same somewhere in their sheds, just in case of this decision

Yep! All but the next most competetive car (oddly) as the rear suspension configuration on the Red Bull will not allow a quick bolt on fix.
The thing that will hold these 'non diffuser' teams back is the fact that this one part can not be regarded in isolation. From the tip of the nose to the back of the diffuser is all interactive....that is the big job :eek:making it work with what you have or will have to have....

I agree and this will not be a quick bolt on fix.

Knowing Ross Brawn like we do.......... I wonder what other goodies are on the Brawn that are not so visible :) Me thinks our clever engineer is possibly having a very quiet chuckle and saying, "If only they knew" :) :D

Button MUST make hay whilst the sun shines and until the other manufacturers catch up, then this year's championship, is Button's to loose :)

I'm surprised that the diffuser rule interpretation slipped past Adrian Newey.
He has the reputation of rarely missing a trick.

This is not a quick fix for them, Mclaren for one will have to cast a new gearbox if they want to use the same design as Brawn, 2 -3 months at the very best.

Suspect they will now come up with their own design diffusers to fit their own cars based on the new ruling, until they need to make a major change to the car when they could incorporate a new gearbox and diffuser design.

Glad to see common sense prevailed aat the FIA though :)

I think the next time common sense prevails, it will be the first time :)

I suspect the driving force :) :) behind this decision was image and public perception

Thinking about it you are probably correct as if they had deemed them illegal then it would have turned a lot of people off the sport.

I thought I had read that Ferrari had a similar problem [but much more funds to engineer the fix]

I'm sure the FIA will dream up some penalty points..

Not good for revenues having the championship decided before the last race..;)

When Frank Williams came up with the idea of side slats to vastly increase downforce, for the first couple of races the team spent a lot of time ostentatiously covering up the gearbox and rear of the car to distract attention from the real innovation.
