I think the next time common sense prevails, it will be the first time

I suspect the driving force behind this decision was image and public perception

I have reason to believe that when they showed the diffuser painted red the detail was invisible to the naked eye thus clearing up debate over the matter.

In future all highly contentious aero-parts will be painted red to avoid detection.

Thinking about it you are probably correct as if they had deemed them illegal then it would have turned a lot of people off the sport.

At that point in time you would seriously question the need for drivers.
