Forté Oil Flush

I thought flushing was a thing of the past, maybe I'm out of date.

I take it this stuff is run through the engine just before draining it ?

I can't see it would do any harm but I'm also a little scepticle if it needed on regualry serviced engines. I oil change and filter change once a year or 6000 miles (ish) and the oil is always good.

Might be good for a diesel I suppose that does short runs or has long service intervals but for garages it a good way to get another tenner out of you.
 
I thought MB advised not to flush etc.

That's what I thought, I change the oil every 10K anyway at the very most (i.e when Assyst flags it up) seems a bit odd that a Mercedes-Benz dealer sells it though?
 
I have used Forte products for about 12 years and always had good results. They do a top end oil treatment that I used to cure valve lifter noise on start up on my Jag, it worked within two days and stayed quiet for six years before I sold the car.
 
Terraclean is better... had this done on my Jeep, and its been good. Peppier on performance, oil stays cleaner longer, dunno about economy though but yer mate Abs, recommends it Edd China.. hes an advocator of it.. as per WD Jag.. and its emissions...cost in the region of 150 notes would I do it again.. probably, is it worth it I'd favour yes.. but not emphatically...
 
If it does anything to clean the engine, it must do it by acidic or some other caustic action.
When you drain out the forte/old oil mixture, there will be significant amounts of corrosive chemicals remaining in all the nooks and crannies., sitting there ready to break-down your lovely new oil.

Doesn't sound too desirable, when you could just replace the contaminated old oil with new, and be sure the contaminants are 99% gone.

On the other hand, it might do nothing, in which case, why are you buying it?
 
The argument against engine flushing agents is that on a dirty engine they can dislodge hard deposits which in turn can clog narrow oilways. The idea is that the best thing you can do for an old/dirty engine, is leave it well alone....

Those advocating engine flushing, say that it's safe as long as you flush the engine at every oil change from new (i.e. not allowing hard deposits to form in the first place).

Those who oppose it, say it's pointless because if you use the manufacturer's recommend oil spec and change it at the correct intervals, then the engine will remain clean anyway and no deposits will develop.
 
A bit like doing a power flush on the central heating at home, dislodges a build up that has been blocking a pin hole for the last 5 years next thing you know you have to pull up your brand new English oak floor to find the leak that wasn't there before you Frukced with it.

I subscribe to the change it early, use the prescribed oil and always renew the filter school of thought. However flushing only if I have stripped and rebuilt significant parts of the engine internals, and then it would be a cheap brand of the correct grade of oil run for a week.
 
I think you have to look back at the history and practice of of flushing oil. Older mineral oils would deposit sludge in the engine if oil change intervals were too long or a car was used routinely on short trips. I'm thinking back 20+ years with my wife's car on the school run. That definitely needed flushing.

With modern synthetic oil already having high detergent content, flushing should never be necessary on a properly maintained engine. If there is anything in there to flush out then the maintenance regime is wrong and you need to change the oil more often. Even if there are deposits, rather flushing oil, much better to routinely use a really high detergent oil like Shell helix Ultra which will gradually clean the engine up over time.
 
Thanks everyone, I will politely decline the flush :p

I’ll just stick to the the oil I get from Mercedes dealer & ensure it’s changed every 10K :)
