I got a letter last week from my local dealer (Harrow - though I've never used them before), offering me a "Free Vehicle Health Check" which "normally costs £80".

I'm going in for it tomorrow morning. Has anyone had this done and is it a proper check or just an excuse to charge you over the odds to fill your washer fluid etc?

My SL has recently been making a creaking sound from the front offside wheel when on full right lock. I was going to take it in to George Fraser for him to diagnose, but thought I'd wait to see wha MB could see when they had the car up on the ramp.
The creaking doesn't happen every time I use full lock, but is alarming when it does.

I get a small amount of creaking when the car is cold and I move the steering without moving the car... so it might be climate related ...

Hubby had the car checked at MB Watford. Washer fluid was filled.
They did find an empty bottle in the underpan!
They also washed the car.

Not sure if check involves checking the above. They do ask if you have any problem with car when you bring in.

Had it done this morning.
The MB Harrow service centre looks new and sparkling clean. Quite impressive. There is a window in the reception area where you can watch the "master technicians" at work.
The checks they did were very basic. Simply visually checked the car over, had a cursory look at oil level, tyre depth, checked all lights were working, bounced the shocks at each corner.
They couldn't see anything wrong with my steering/suspension etc and suggested I bring it back in for a proper check.
Do it if its free and you've got an hour to spare. You get your car washed.
Don't even consider it if you have to pay £80. It is not worth more than the fiver you could pay someone to wash your car.

Its a free step in the right direction, gets more expensive the further you walk.

I'll have to tell my dad about this new MB dealer and the free health check as he lives just minutes walk away from their premises.

I must say this dealer has popped up overnight out of nowhere as dad usually had to go to either Abbey Road or the dealers in Watford.

Thanks for the heads-up :D

FYI that site is servicing only. I'm not sure where the main site is.
