Has anyone had any dealings with them recently regarding Laser / radar detectors ?

I have to go to France in the next 3-4 weeks, and will be taking the Merc, which is "hard-Wired" for my B2. I know I can leave the B2 unit at home, but will they still see the laser detector, GPS and mounting bracket as having the kit in the car, and force me to remove it (which would mean taking all the trim around the windscreen etc out) ?

As I understand things, possesion (even if in a box, in the boot) in France is illegal ?

And how would I prove I had left the B2 at home ?......

Any advice / suggestions (other than take the other car) ?

If you don't have the main unit in the car with you then they can't do a lot can they?
I wouldnt worry too much, I used mine in France a couple of years ago and got stopped :o . They just told me to keep it hidden from veiw and of course not to use it at all.

Check out the Pistonheads web site. Lots of posts about the French police and laser/radar detectors.

I have.... some interesting comments there.. Basicly don't take it !!

Do not take it at any cost. They are stamping down hard on users, e.g removing Passports & Licences and Etc

Having been relieved of £550 (750 Euros) on a recent trip to France in June of this year i would reccomend removing as much as possible. If they are in doubt they will get a local police car to fire a radar beam at your car and listen for any alert from your car.

Four of us got fined as we drove down Le Mans for the racing. They had set up check points and were even so kind as to give us direction to the bank to get our cash out to pay the fines. Numerous other British motorist got fined as well.

Oh yes and they confiscated the detectors as well. What really annoyed was that i since found out we would have only received a 400 euro fine for doing 120mph as one of our friends found out on the way home.

Good luck.

Will leave it behind, or take the Landy then... Many thanks all

My wife is french and I go 4 times a year with my car, my advise leave the detector at home they have clamped down so hard. Anyway if you dont get caught by the police speeding your be finr, been flashed there at 100mph on the auto route and have heard nothing. Also drove nearly all the way fron north paris to calais at between 100mph and 120mph. Just keep your eyes open, my experience is they tend to sit in the slow lane in there dark blue cars! Got pulled by them once because my break lights were faulty and stayed on all the time, they were helpful escorted me off the motorway because they could n't fix it for me. Then a french kwik fit type place fixed the car in 5 minuted for free, nice guy. But dont fancy beiing pulled for speeding those because judging by how much my french family have slowed down there not to pleasent
